Seriously, I've been wandering a long time about the names of some 'Mechs. Many are descriptive, like "Catapult", "Trebuchet" or "Centurior". Others have motivational names like "Awesome", "Hellbringer" or "Annihillator". Others have name in representation of animals or cool mitological stuff like "Atlas", "Timber Wolf", "Warhawk (or Masakari... my favorite one)"...

But why Jenner?? Why?

I haven't find anything related... Good guy Greg, are you there?

Regards!

..
..
....
Maybe it was named after the person who developed the mech, real or in-universe. I'm sure somebody has this info somewhere in some sourcebook.

Mason Grimm's got it. Bruce Jenner, famous Olympic sprinter. Obviously in the alternate history which is occupied by Battletech he had a significantly larger impact on popular culture.

Totally true. And it's also true that, in the alternate BT universe, the Kardashian sisters go for successful mech-jocks rather than sportsmen. Little known fact - three of the last five Solaris VII champions have dated a Kardashian.

MechWarrior Online

Due to my 'flock of Jenners' comment, I now cannot see them running without hearing Flock of Seagull's "I Ran" in my head.

I walked along the battlefield
I never thought I'd meet a mech like you;
Meet a mechl like you.
With Streak SRMS and Medium Lasers;
The kind of lasers that burn my armour through;
Burn my arour through.

And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
I couldn't get away.

A cloud appears, LRMs on the way;
A beam laser comes piercing on through,
Comes piercing on through.
The LRMS are moving nearer still.
A Atlas comes in view;
Atlas comes in view.

And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
I couldn't get away.

Reached out a hand to fire medium lasers;
You're slowly Closing range;
Closing range.
Reached out and fired those laser again;
I'm floating in a beam of light from you;
A beam of light from you.

And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I couldn't get away.

Now just find a local Van flock of seagulls cover band and get them to do the song, and have it in game! Piloting like a boss!

LOL!!!

Yes, I really think it is Bruce Jenner because he won the Gold Medal in the Decathalon in the '76 Montreal Olympic Games, and by the early 80's Bruce Jenner was such a media sensation that he wound up being Erik Estrada's replacement in CHiPs.

Since Mechwarrior is a thing of the 80's... it makes sense.

However, if you stick to the 80's theme, I'd expect to see some really really fast and twitchy Mechs named "White Horse," "Mirror-Streak," or "SniffleMech"

Everyone goes old. He was quite popular with the ladies when he was younger.

The name isn't given a reason in the TRO, it probably is named after Bruce Jenner as it's fast. *shrugs* There are a lot of little tidbits like this in btech.

I have to admit, the thought of an iconic mech like the jenner being named after a pop-culture figure makes me physically ill....and that photo really doesn't help.

Seriously, though, I always assumed that the jenner was named after edward jenner who developed the world's first vaccine (smallpox).

I wasn't kidding when I said it was named after Bruce Jenner folks, I was being 100% serious; I was also being serious when I gave you an aesthetic comparison. The Jenner has never been my favorite looking mech LOL They were both born prior to the Exodus, both are weathered by the passing of time and both are still around.

In all fairness; both were quick on their feet during their time periods.

And both are now, again, culturally relevant... that is, if you watch The Car Show with Adam Corolla.

You know that you basically asked for a very big Kardashian behind coming flying your way now and ****ing a lawsuit upon you? Unless, of course, you can make amends by offering an interesting concept for a new reality show. Like... "Bruce and Scott take Luthien" or "Kim and Chloé roll over Victor Steiner-Davion" or whatever...

Heck, maybe you might just get away by talking PGI into hiring a certain socialite-gone-reality TV person to be the new Mech computer voice for MWO... :)

*runs and hides*

(And PGI might take their revenge on you by forcing you to date one of those... persons... for real... poor you...)
