JackTD, i would disagree. in a merc company, you really have to be on top of things. and he didn't say money was of any bearing in what mechs you brought to the table. just what would you want to bring. if i have to go fight somewhere i don't know particularly well, against i don't know what, i want comms and coordination that gives me an edge. guess that's just me, though. now, if money is a limitation, certainly, you'd either have to find one somewhere, unprotected, or buy one and the purchase price is gonna hurt, if the full tech is in it.

1200 rifle infantry assume you use balancing weight from tech 1, should read :5600 rifle infantry

Murder Lance 1:

4 Trenchbuckets

Murder Lance 2:

4 Trenchbuckets

400t so far

Command/Recon Lance:

1 Locusts

420t

2 Trenchbuckets

520t

1 Awesome AWS-8T (2 LRM15s w/1t of ammo each, 2 Large Lasers, 1 Small Laser and 23 Heat Sinks)

600t

Trebuchets make up the bulk of my forces for a simple reason; 20 LRM15s on somebody is not playing fair. Also, it is not a famous silhouette like the Catapult (which make it a target) and decently fast with 3 Medium Lasers for a good defense. The 8T makes for a good command Mech as it has armor and good ranged weapons allowing me to be in the fight, without being in the middle of the fight.

If you willingly start a fight about terrain that you do not know against an unknown opponent, even a Cyclops is not going to help you much.

Its time to disengage and get better intel.

But I have to concure that communication, command and control (and I would also add intelligence) is underrated and much more important than most players care.

My Merc company, freshly out of Solaris:

Recon Lance:

2x Raven RVN-3L
2x Wolfhound WLF-2
140 tons

The Ravens are for recon and target acquisition, the Wolfhounds protect the Ravens and enable their retreat if necessary.

Support Lance:

2x Dervish DV-6M
2x Whitworth WTH-2
190 tons

LRM bombardement ftw. If you work with Ravens, utilize them!

Command Lance:

1x Ostroc OSR-2C
2x Crusader CRD-3R
1x Awesome AWS-8V
270 tons

Also lots of LRM plus some nice mixed-range support.

The efficiency of this company relies very much on the quality of their scouts. If the Raven pilots know what they are doing, this setup is devastating and can beat every enemy.

Lets see here...

Scout/Flanker lance:
2 Volkhs
1 Hussar HSR-200Db
1 wolf hound WLF-2
Total weight: 160 tonnes
Ok, so the Volkh is an odd choice as it might not exist yet (All technology to build it did exist at this time period so it's not like I'm adding plasma weapons and RACs) and without the supercharger it chugs along at 70 mph which is pretty flippin slow for a flanker. That having been said, I see them working like the jaws of an angler fish that snap down on enemies that go after the hussar and wolf hound which fulfill the nominal roles of scout. In the event that I need to be defensive, the lance still has the speed to move into a flanking position and do some damage or get to cover.

Brawler lance
1 axemen AXM-1N
1 centurion CN9-AL
1 grasshopper GHR-5H
1 stalker STK-3F
270 tons
Nothing fast or flashy here, Just a lance that is meant to hold the line (The stalker alone will be sure to get the attention of enemy players) while support lance and flanker are able to do whatever it takes to get the job done. As a nice touch, the two heavies are Jump capable making them nastier in urban environments.

Support lance
trebuchet TBT-5N
2 valkyries VLK-2QD
kintaro KTO-19B
170 tons
The support lance has a nice uniform speed allowing it to quickly position itself before unloading. Further, the kintaro is fast enough and tough enough to NARC an enemy, greatly increasing the killing power of all the mechs in the lance and the stalker from brawler lance.

I'm sure that a more expierienced player with comparable tonnage and limitations could take me to school, but I'd like to think I could give him a fat lip while he tried it.
