Both. The online one for low cost and easy access, with a package sold in a physical box of in game currency and bonuses for people who can't use credit cards for payment, or paypal.

Really? Just skipped over the FAQ and came straight here and posted... that? Do you understand what a FREE TO PLAY game is, right?

IGP and Piranha would be /retarded/ to spend the money on a disc, spend the money creating a box for it, pay for the shipping and handling of said box to various retailers, paying said retailers and jumping through hoops for said retailers to put said box shelves, much less design and management that all went into said process. Even if it costs them a buck to do this, it is being sold for 10 bucks, because they then have to try to re-coup their money and the retailers get their cut... yup, they effectively get paid twice, specially if IGP/Piranha doesn't want their games in a bad location so it is easier for you to find.

All of that money that would normally be spent on that is going straight into the game to make it better. Trust me, that is alot of money.

If /anything/ like that exists, it will be through another manufacturer that is already jumping through said hoops and already doing the effort. Heck, alot of joystick and various video card makers already give out discs with a ton of free games 'to better use and display' their products, and including a MWO installer program would take no space what-so-ever on a disc with 10 other games on it...almost to the point of being wasteful if it was by itself. The Installer isn't the game, by the way. The same amount of time it takes you to install the game is the same amount of time it does for me, after the 30 seconds it took me to down load it.

I was simply wondering that was all, yes i did look throught the faq's and post 'that' as you put it, but there have been instances where free 2 play games have made enough money through advertising alone 2 produce a disc'd version as well as the download for example Guild Wars. I apolagize if you found this thread a waste of time but as I said I am new to this.

They will probably be download at first but once they build up some they could shoot for a wider release offering a retail box containing a good value in cash-shop currency and maybe a free mech. World of Tanks did that and it seemed like a good idea to me.

That's a false presumption, because there are several f2p games available through steam right now, including Spiral Knights, Team Fortress 2, and more.

True but we won't be using Steam.

As with all F2P titles, it is a download. Although I could make a box out of an empty Kraft Dinner box and stick a MWO sticker on it, wrap it in plastic wrap and sell it to you for $89.99.

Pffft, undercutting yourself.

Ship to Australia and you could sell it for $99.99

Put a Playstation 3 sticker on it then you could sell it for $119.99

Tho, you're being too creative with you're money making ideas. Take the 2nd item on this list for example

And yes, people do buy stuff like that *makes sure my chaser block is still lined up right with all my other junk* ^ ^

Please be patient with the new folks coming to the boards. They haven't all be ravaging all the info we've been releasing over the last few months.

You guys have stickers?! I want one

Plus if you really did make a box for the game, even if itsa "re-purposed" one, I'd probably buy it for $89.99 (as long as it said collectors edition on it).

Throw in a certificate of authenticity written on a used Post-It Note that I have the only one, and I'm in.

(I feel a need to actually disclaim this as a joke... don't do it Paul!)

Hi,

White Wolf made a limited version of the whole Vampire the masquerade thing.
Isn't it possible to do the same here?
-A Bundle with a copy of MWO, a special Joystick and some other stuff-
Only the people who ordered one, get one.
so there will be enough products for everyone and no waste...

Greetings from germany..... (i know my english isn't that good...)

Creating a boxed set might be an unnecessary financial burden for launch. It might be more feasible down the line after they get a better idea on how the general gaming population receives the game and would probably be more merchandise with a DVD than anything.

Our country's internet is usually not the best for huge downloads so the local publishers here will usually print tens of thousands or so CD/DVDs for their F2P game installers to spread around for free (no box, just plastic and shiny cardboard/paper sleeves) every few major patches.

My thoughts would be that they would do something a la League of Legends. Primarily it is download only, but you can buy a boxed set that comes with a code for ingame stuffs. (maybe exclusive aesthetic items, or some bonus C-bills to start the game with) Basically the boxed sets are advertising for the game, because the internet is a big place. Plus mechs are cool, so maybe we can get some 12 year olds to beg their parents for "that robot game"

Edit: Aww, silly me for not reading the whole 2nd page. Well, I still think the boxed set would be a neat idea.
