To see if there is a base for this, I believe this could help expand the game especially with the pay for items and micropurchase method as this helped Eve, Star Trek Online, Second Life and several other games with their longevity as well as continuing to build a community.

So the question is:
Will they let us?
And would we take advantage of making such things?

Afterall, wouldn't it be fun to be able to fight for the entire FRR or Pick random planet and make a map for it? OR! Allow the Players to add mech designs which can then be put up for micropurchase?

If there was a sructure all had to adhere to, then it might be fun, or interesting. If the devs had goals outlined as projects, competitions, or like you say "Afterall, wouldn't it be fun to be able to fight for the entire FRR or Pick random planet and make a map for it? OR! Allow the Players to add mech designs which can then be put up for micropurchase?", that may work.

I am against kaotic plentitude.

I'm all for player made Maps, but not mechs. But only if there was a system in place in which the maps would have to be approved by the developers before being made available through their DLC.

Would be nice if the DEVs would look at stuff and decide.

Maps? Absolutely! Mechs? NO WAY.

If somebody wants to have a private server running heavy mods, like custom mechs and weapons, then more power to the mod community. To give that to the general public sounds catastrophic to game quality. If the Dev's would throw map design contests, I'd be fine with that. I want a quality experience. If I want the mods: I'll find the Modder's server.

+1 to Morgana. I'm with you all the way on this one.

I'd say yes, but on a smaller scale. Due to the nature of the game I don't think we'll see player based maps (though being on CryEngine 3, it's possible that end users can make maps to submit as a sort of bi-monthly contest or something?), but I would like to see smaller stuff like paint jobs, decals and 'mech doodads have some sort of marketplace. It'd be nice to see MWO making money by effectively allowing players to sell content and skimming a cut from it, similar to what Valve is experimenting with in the near future for user created content.

Again, yes on player content but only small items and approved maps (unless there is a way to do non-canon, non-stat tracked custom drops, then I'm all for 100% allowing player maps at will).

EDIT: I am strongly in favor of allowing fully customized decals being added to 'mechs from uploaded TGAs, however. This is a feature I would pay money for, to add my unit logos and such to my 'mech.

Take a look at valve. Though TF2 is F2P they have a tremendously succesul content making community. Standout creators get their maps/weapons integrated into the game and a fractional cash reward. Keeps content and ideas fresh beyond he possibilities of a relatively flea-sized main team.

I like player made content, but I don't know how it would fit in. I don't want to see it in the main game/official servers. However I don't think that this is the sort of game that is going to allow for private servers.

Maybe they can do it like LOL where you can modify your texture maps locally. The best ones often get picked up to be remade into official skins by Riot.

maps for sure. nothing else, though, unless you want a job with the dev team, then you could contact them on the side.

I think it fits in where people feel there are missing options or gaps to be filled.

PvE, solo/single player, tutorials, historic/book inspired battles, just a few of (I'm sure) many ideas people could come up with if we had the tools to do so.

It adds depth to the game (even if peripherally) and if the podcasts, short stories, repaints and plethora of other player inspired stuff on the forums is any indication, it might range from meh to very nice.

About as far as I'd go for player made content is personalization, IE: paint jobs and emblems.

Maybe not this year. But I wouldn't say Never. There are already great map ideas going on in this thread Map Type Suggestions It definitely has potential. I've seen plenty of savvy artists in this forum that can handle the task of map making. But we will need to be patient. There will be a lot of other things that will need to be worked out before that capability will become available. But if this takes off the way I think it will, it WILL happen. I have have faith in the Dev's and the dedicated Community. Just a matter of time.

I wont say never either. But at launch? no. Someone has to police all the content that would flood in for approval and the devs will have a great many more important things to be doing.

SUGGESTIONS are always welcome and the devs are putting all the ones with merit up on a whiteboard. Keep the suggestions flowing if you really want a great game.

The only way I see (read with caution) user generated content will make it in-game is if the devs put together a comprehensive system that allows the pilot to produce a design or concept that follows every rule on a structured list of rules. If it falls within all the parameters, and is submitted for review, it might be chosen. The same can be done for something that requires modelling like a map, but it would require review. How many maps do you want to choose from, which all might be identical save for a valley or cityscape layout?

Honestly, as good as someone might be (props to MWLL team) at making maps or modeling 'Mechs, wouldn't you rather spend your time playing our awesome new game?

since the beginning of time, player made maps were superior to official ones, becose they dont do it as job for money, they are the players who play the game most, knows it best, created out of pure passion for good gameplay, they are just better.

from what I saw in map thread, piranha have no chance comming with better maps, some of the ideas the guys had were just ridiulously good

lol player made mechs,I already see this new assault 100 ton Urbie OP pwnmonster

I was thinking fondly of a 200 tonner I once designed, internals and all. Dual reactors and about 40% more weapons and armor than another 100 tonner.

Fan made content can be vital to the success and long-jeopardy of a game. I hope the devs have considered this.

So from what I see, Mechs NO!
Maps: Yes with Approval
Decals and Fluff Stuff: Yes
Scenarios: Could be fun? Maybe.

TO qualify what I meant: If the Devs had such a project or competition, only the winners would be allowed to have their award winning developement to be showcased. A win win. Relatively free for the Devs, stent and accolades for the amature developer.

The rest of the amature devs, would just have to try harder next time. :)
