I built this guy last year, figured I'd see what some connoisseurs think of him.

It was originally highly articulated in the hips and ankles, but it is a little too heavy for the types of joints that are possible without making the pelvis and feet much bulkier, so now it only stands, but I still like it. There's some more pictures over here if you're interested.

Very good job. Given its size, I can certainly appreciate the level of skill and complexity into this model. Makes me want to work on some models myself...

An absolute work of art. Any chance you can give the blueprints for that? :) Or a Nova Cat, either way!

Brilliant, finding the correct blocks to build it is a work of art itself.

How and where do you find the blocks to build ?

You model makes that mech look cool. The WizkidsGames Model looked like a 90ft tall, 3 ft wide, skeleton mech and it was UGLY...Good work on that thing +D

That's just awesome! Love it! I'd like to see any others you feel like making, too, honestly.

Wow nice work. Finding the right blocks in green alone makes me cringe, you must be very well organized with your Lego.

Nice job!

Be wary, someone may sue you for using the artwork and such :)

On the page I linked to at the end of the first post, there is a .LXF file that can be openned with LEGO Digital Designer

Combination of a lot of patients on Bricklink.com, and the amazing LDD Manager, which takes an LDD model and produces a useable parts list and lets you know if any of your color choices for a particular part don't exist. It gets the part numbers right most of the time :).

On my brickshelf page, you can find a Panther, a Razorback (with crappy knee joints), a MW4 style Hellbringer (an altered Brickcommander design), and plans for a Hauptmann that I did a long time ago and is just awful.
I'm also...working...

HOLYWOW 8o

I love LEGO, but I had no idea they had a 3D designer!

Did you order parts for that or did you use what you had? Is there a way for me to get a hold of some of your blueprints? They are SO epic

EDIT: nvm I got your thunderbolt :) What's wrong with the knee joints?
EDIT 2: Knee joints are fine. It's the hip joints that won't articulate...

I am absolutely in awe of your Lego making abilities. I used to make fantasy starships out of legos for ***** and giggles, but nothing near as complex as these mechs.

Kudos to you sir, and a barrel of mead.

Permission to post my clan's take on your AWESOME mech design? I piloted one of these in a Living Legends private server...

Could you also add blueprints for the other 2 mechs on your page? Please? I'm building the Razorback using the pics you posted but I can't figure out how you connected the hip to the body :)

I only have my Razorback and Panther in LDRAW format. The left arm of the RZK-9S uses a connection that isn't possible in LDD, and is technically 'illegal' by LEGO company standards because it will slightly damage one of the parts over time. LDD was still pretty buggy and had a very limited part selection at the time, also. I can still throw it up if you want, but LDRAW is a pain to get set up, and worse to use, for new-comers.

The hip joint works like this:

Posted Image

The technic axle is this part. I used the same joint in the Razorback's right arm. It's a nice compact joint that gives a fair amount of friction, but gets a little weak on heavier builds. The MW4 Hellbringer from Brickcommander had this in the hips, also. It was strong enough for the mech to stand, but a stiff breeze would knock it over, so I swapped them out for something using ball joints.

If you're building the Razorback, I encourage you to come up with something different for the knee joints. The connection to the upper leg is weak, they come off a lot, and they don't really pivot at the right place. I'd go back and replace them myself if I wasn't slowly cannibalizing my own build for other stuff.
