Make internal / structural repairs EXPENSIVE. Armor repairs cheap.

I hate min maxers who stripe their armor off and have parts of their mechs blown off on the norm like replacing it cost butterflies.

One way to prevent this is to make internal repairs/ missing arms/ legs/ actuator damage really expensive so that one will want to "protect" it as much as possible. Protection should come cheap as to encourage padding something up as opposed to having it missing which would be a much costlier alternative.

This is also as a method to prevent abuse of legs not being blown off, and only causing limping where someone would have very little armor in the legs because having one destroyed would not have a "balanced" consequence as lieing on the ground biting knees.

Just like the MFB's from MW:3. In multiplayer they'd be destructible to enemy mechs I guese, but it sounds like an interesting tool to protect. Cool.

What I would like is to see the repair/rearm costs fall, somewhat in line with the TT game. Thing is, you really can't adjust the game for min/maxers. They will always be around and if you try and create a game that doesn't allow for it, you'll end up with a game no body likes.

ALL MMO's allow for min/maxing. It's why you get cookie-cutter and flavor of the month builds for all of them. Someone will always find the sweet spot for gear/weapons/etc and then post it on the net and poof!

Now, what I would like for them to do, and I seem to recall it mentioned somewhere, is for every part of the mech to be damageable. That way, if you have someone that wants to strip armor to mount more weapons/ammo/heat sinks, fine. But now he's going to have to repair actuators, weapons themselves, etc. After dealing with the massive repair bill to just get his arm functioning again, might entice them to add some armor.

Add to that maybe having some kind of repair time might help a bit too.

if your silly enough to strip armor to add weapons your already your own worst enemy. no need to punish them further by increasing what is already the most expensive parts in the game lore. especially weapons on arms. 300,000 for an unloaded gauss rifle is pretty expensive to replace

Yup, that's pretty much it. No need for punishment if you're stripping armour, you're basically flogging yourself.

I don't know, it depends on how much armor you're stripping: Very few 'mechs have maximum levels of armor that they could have, so pretty much every single 'mech already removes armor for some aspect - including weapons.

That said, yes, I want to see the end of silly stuff like in MW4 where you'd want to run with half a ton of side torso armor because you had nothing vital in there - and we will. The return of crits, engine hits and gyros (God I hope they model XL engines in MWO, that'd just be the cherry on top!) I think will already punish people who are unreasonable about it.

.. as to the OP, I'd go a step further and like to see a limited availability of replacement parts entirely. Make people buy new limbs, gyros, heatsinks, etc. from a market that only can provide you with them some of the time, forcing you to go into fights with somewhat damaged 'mechs. That added tons of atmosphere in MechWarrior 1 even if it is a bit sadistic.

there was another thread with some talk about used parts,

some times they are cheap others may not work 100%

I really like Mandaisy s idea though .

I like this idea. I like it a lot . . . i think it would add a whole new level of game play.

I don't know if min/maxing is going to be an issue because of the crits/loadouts. There may be some kind of system that fixes the weapon positions for the IS 'mechs. We don't have the mechlab data yet, but I would definitely keep this concept on the table.

Then again, new players who want to jump in and kill stuff might not want to deal with being restricted by money when that isn't their focus initially. I am sure the devs have the broad scope in mind.
