Ok, I barely remember the mech warrior series but I have played the mech Assault ones, which are in 3rd person. This game is going to be first person, but I liked the 3rd person from assault because you could actally see your wn mech, and for me its easier aiming. Please dont just talk about the two games here, I know there is conflict between the Mech Warrior/Assault fans, but I would just like a mode to switch to 3rd person if you wanted to. Maybe as a later feature or something, but In games like this, I personnaly like 3rd better than 1st person.

MechWarrior games of the past included 3rd person, so this isn't exclusive to MechAssault. We've limited the game to 1st person at launch for balance and tactical reasons. I expect any 3rd person implementation will happen post launch and be tied to a mode modifier aka mutator. This would result in a forced mode, either 1st or 3rd to create a level playing field. As we go through betas, and we can do some testing, we may accelerate 3rd person if it doesn't have the tactical implications we believe it to have. The other challenge with 3rd person, is getting the feel right. We're trying to make sure the mechs don't look like toys or RC cars.

I think It would be a bad idea to lock it in for some game modes and not others. Mr. Person is a large group of your player base. I understand you can't make everyone happy when making a videogame, but I also think you guys might be a little too hardcore on your 1st person. With MWO being f2p and a lot of custom mechery going on you may lose some money with the "well I can't see my camoed out mech why buy the camo". I belive a fix for 3rd person view would be not being able to "see" other mech unless in line of sight and if spotted by a scout mech, have them just show on radar.

If there will be a 3rd person option, I don't want to be forced to play with the people that use it.

First off, I believe that there should (eventually) be an option for third person view, with an additional option to force first person in a server - that way, people who want third person and people who want first person only can both have their option.
However, I do not believe that not having third person view will make cosmetics useless. If it did, then I strongly suspect Steam would make much less money with Hat Fortress 2 - just to name one of many examples

I personally think a UAV or hovercam should be the only way to view in third person. Have it as something that could be destroyed that would force someone back into first-person. Make it so explosion splash could knock it out of the sky or cause it to seriously wobble. It's not impossible to have a drone of some kind to hover over the shoulder of a mech. Limit its fuel to 5 mins and limit its carry count to 3. This way third-person can't be "abused" and it will add a tactical feature to the game.
Doing it this way adds to the tactical role-warefare play, keeps to the Mech-Sim fans (Still Force 1st person the rest of the time), and keeps Third-person fans somewhat happy. Remember folks, it's impossible to make EVERYONE happy. You either make side 1 happy, side 2 happy, or everyone a little happy.

What Bryan is saying up above, is a game mode setting (mutator) that will lock everyone into a specific view. You can opt in to these games or not, that's up to you as the player base. We will try a 3rd person view after launch in closed testing as mentioned and will make a call and let you know about it at that time.
For now, hop in 1st person and I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised.
