If you have this problem (where when a mech gets hit it starts to glow so bright that it darkens the rest of your screen and you can't see) you know how frustrating it is. There is a workaround, the only problem is that it turns off all hit glow (when a mech is hit it will no longer glow to show the hit). Put this line in your user.cfg and (re)start your client (use at your own risk, buyer beware, use of this product does not constitute my agreement to fix your problem)
;use 0 to turn off glow effects.

Might as well turn it off, it's not an accurate indicator of a hit. I often have secions of my target glow after I see it hit, but not do any damage. The cross hairs turning red are the only true indicator. So if the glow bothers you...get rid of it.

Am I the only one that thought it was pretty cool?

It was cool at first, and then funny when I saw my first insanely bright Catapult lit up like a roman candle.
It should be fixed in the Nov 6 patch.
