It's so other people don't use it and possibly so people can find you easier -- people know you can often just type in what you want and then add .com, so you type either xbox.com or kinect.com and get to the xbox website.

Yes, because NONE of us read that very nice proposal one of the Devs sent about Solaris. Just look at how long some free-to-play games have been out for (DDO comes to mind). Many of them aren't even that successful, yet because they are free-to-play, they can stay around WAY longer than the life span of your average MMO. Add to that the fact that PGI is working some serious magic with MW:O, and you'll realize it porbably is going to be around that long, at least.
Think about it, could you imagine any need for PGI to update the graphics for MW:O in the next decade? They already have 3D support, and the game already looks stunning. That means all they need to do is keep coming out with new content, and BAM. Can't wait to see the 10th year anniversary of this game IN GAME. XD

I wouldn't mind if the Jihad turned out like it should have in the first place.
3067, Word of Blake starts it's Jihad.
One month later the Wolf Dragoons warships blow the utter crap out of the force headed to Outreach.
Six months later the houses curb stomp the Word of Blake out of the Chaos March.
One year later Word of Blake is a bad memory.
Not a thing about the Jihad is remotely consistent or sensible within the BTU. It's even worse than the Civil War, at least that was a good idea with bad execution. It's didn't pull stuff like "Oh yeah the houses exist but they let this fruity little protector in the center of the IS continue on.." and such.
Worse yet, there WAS a decent setup for it. Everything was in place for WoB to use the Free Worlds League assets, manipulating FWL into invading the IS on their behalf. That coulda been interesting. Instead, no, the hacks at Wizkids decide WoB should attack them to. The literal worst thing WoB should have been able to pull off is pretty much "Space 9/11" and not some kind of full scale invasion. I'd buy them blowing up half the HPGs or lostech factories in the IS in some kind of coordinated strike before I could accept any of the total warfare stuff. Even the Com Guard in no way had the numbers to fight the IS like that, and the WoB is a splinter group from them.
Argh. The worst noose on CBT's neck is being forced to march towards Dark Ages - a game that's defunct. I really would not mind if MWO swerves off the timeline before the Jihad and does things differently. The Civil War at least presents interesting fight scenarios that aren't too wildly out of place, that failed in characters, not BTU logic.

Hate to tell you this but the Jihad and Dark Age and EVERYTHING (minus Mech Assault) is confirmed to be canon and it will not change. As far as I know Catalyst plans on just giving a "magic hand wave" over it and really not touching it much more than it already has been, so I guess you don't have to worry too much.
Good to see they are snapping up the addresses though to funnel traffic in.

Well, they could retcon it and remake it the way they meant to make it, instead of the garbage that got put out instead. >_>

Oh I will agree that execution was a bit m'eh, but I do like the Jihad a little bit, just for the fancy toys that come from it. I don't like the Dark Age so much with all the industrial 'mechs running around, but then it gets slightly better towards the end (I.E. Blade, Xanthos seeing production, some very nice tanks).

Er... just to raise the point... DDO was a subscription-only MMORPG, from February 28, 2006 up until September 9, 2009. I consider it to be one of the two most successful traditional MMO conversions to F2P (the other being LotR:O, also by Turbine) since you can earn the necessary 'currency' to add content simply through playing the free content. (Admittedly, there will be some grinding involved.)
The F2P conversion was so successful for them that they were able to hire more developers and expand the content significantly, whereas before it was slowly dying. (LotR:O was not suffering the same difficulties but has increased revenue since the switch.) It's not exactly the same thing as a title intended to be F2P from the start, but there are some good lessons to be learned from there.

Oh I know, I was playing it back when it was still sub-based.

The different urls pointing to this site is really just an example of how DNS (Domain-Name Service) works. Each url is associated with an IP address, and therefore, if any of those urls are typed into the bar and entered, sh-bang, you get directed to the IP associated with that domain name.

To me it does not exist, the timeline stopps somewhere b4 that (after the Civil War) and the BTU i like is still intact in all its treason and warfare.
I can live with the Clans, i am not to happy how they made the Clans happen, but it still did not destroy the Universe.
Dark Age simply destroys it to make the game start over, get new sales and i hate it.
If i would still play MWO that time Dark Age happens i either join an MWO-Reboot (starting 3049 again) or stop playing.
But that is so far ahead...
Its like i like Vampire the Masquerade more than the new stuff.
The new stuff is maybe more streamlined and in itself consistent but simply misses the immersion and wonder from the first part.
One could argue if i had read and played Dark Age first, i would have become a fan of it but no - i would have laughed and thought why i should stomp around in a humanoid woodcutter with some sort of big rifle attached to parts that cant carry one usually.
No Dark Age!
