If this is rehashing old ideas or it has already been decided that it will never happen I apologize and please close the thread.

There have been a lot of threads about problems with the rewards system and how much grinding you have to do and how bad the trial mechs are. I posted this in another thread but thought it was worth it's own topic.

The idea is that you let people customize loadouts on the trial mechs. It starts as a stock variant with stock equipment but they can open it up in the mech lab and mess around with it. You could potentially handle the mech lab one of two ways. Either they pay for all the equipment they use and then retain it (it gets stripped of the mechs) when the trial mechs rotate, or else you have the trial mech mech lab have free equipment for them to use either with all items free or else most of them free (maybe don't put higher end things like xl engines or what have you in the trial mech mech lab).

Along with this I would recommend decreasing the stock win/lose bonuses and increasing the actual performance bonuses.

All of this would give new players a better introduction to the game. First, they'd be introduced to the mech lab sooner and start to learn about building mechs. Second, they probably wouldn't end up in crappy stock fits that are mostly ineffective. Third, their grinding experience would be considerably more enjoyable since they can at least have a better choice of their playstyle for it. And fourth, it would reduce/eliminate the afk/suicide farming that is particularly effective in the current system.

I would also implement a base defense bonus for being inside the square stopping the other team from capping. It's odd to me that there is not bonus for this currently. But that's kind of a separate issue.

Allowing them to customize it with the money they earn without advanced equipment seems like an interesting compromise.

No XL, dHS, ES, FF... hmmm...

Then yank the win/lose bonus altogether, which I have recommended.

I like that.

Wow, knocked off the first page within 10 minutes twice. Should I have posted this in another forum?

I 100% agree with you. The game doesn't really start until you have your own mech that you can customize. I also really like your ideas on changing up the match bonuses. If you contribute a lot to your team, you should get a significant chunk of bonuses, even if you lose.

I agree with you, but there should be pretty good limitations on what you CAN build with the trial mechs. It should never be the case that using a trial mech would be desirable to use over ones own mech...After all, what would be the point of saving 10mill for my own Atlas(not that I would ever pilot one myself) when I can get in a trial Atlas and get a loadout that could be as well, if not better off, than my own Atlas?

Perhaps a good idea would be giving them a budget they could spend, say, the Chassis, a choice between a normal Engine and an XL engine(would not be best available) and a 300k budget for weapons(although that number would have to change). This would mean they couldn't afford any of the big upgrades, nor would they be able to afford the real good layouts, such as dual guass or huge LRM boats.

On the other point.. yea the win/loss bonus should be drastically reduced, while the other bonuses should be increased. One thing I thought would be really neat is if instead of a salvage cbill bonus there was a small chance of getting a random weapon from one of the wreckages of your foes.

Move the engine selection to Upgrade tab.

With a trial mech, you can only access bacis loadout with weapons, equipments, and armor distribution.

Rename trial mech to "rented mech's".

Done. Problem solved.

Another benefit this would have is that it would introduce people to spending CBills earlier. Currently there's a very large barrier to spending CBills in that you have to buy a mech first which costs several million CBills. If you let them use the mech lab on the trial variants they would already be spending CBills on equipment much earlier and when they actually saved up for their own chassis they'd have some equipment to put on it.

You shouldn't have bothered. This thread was done to death in closed beta but PGI apparantly thinks the initial grind before you can customise/earn XP is a good idea.

But didn't you realize? This is the only free to play game on the entire internet, it doesn't matter how utterly boring the new player expierience is, it isn't like they'll leave and play another game. Right?

Oh, well that sort of makes sense. But what if they jump ship to play a non free to play game?
