An important feature that's missing in MWO is the ability to select a target under my reticle.
Although the current method of targeting isn't bad, I sometimes still have to cycle through a few enemies before I get to the one I want. More importantly, however, adding this feature would allow me to select friendly units under my reticle. That would be allow me to see specifically which of their components are damaged (not just their average life percentage) and I could see what weapons they have (and therefore, for example, whether I want to stick close to them or stay far away).

Select target under reticle

'R' selects/deselects the enemy target under your reticule.
Though I agree that we should also have access to friendly damage/weapon states.

Often, when pressing 'r', I get some other target before getting the target nearest to my recticle.
As for targeting friendlies, not sure if want. If we get something like that, it should be another keybind so you don't accidentally your teammates.

I remember mechwarrior 4 having next/prev/nearest for both friendly/enemy, and target under reticle, for a total of at least 7 different targetting keys.
So, the functionality of all these keys is now mapped to just the r key?
Editted to add: not trying to be a jerk, I just found out this was in open beta and have played every previous mechwarrior game, and I feel like my joystick key bindings are pretty scant. I guess people don't like simulation games anymore, simpler is better for the mass market?

Necro'd, bumped, and commented for interest. MW2, MW2: GBL, and MW2: Mercs all shared this feature in common and it is sorely missed in this game.

Right now, it usually selects the target under reticle. But I'd like more targetting options. For example, if someone on my team says "Focus fire A", it takes too long for me to find that target. I need to press Q to get the overlay, look at up to 8 different targets on my screen, trying to look past the flashing friendly targets, and then figure out which one is A, and finally look at it and point R, hoping that it will be targeted.
Sometimes it's not a problem, but sometimes it is. And it would easily be avoided with some of the simple targetting options that older MW games (and most combat sims) have.

This great suggestion got losyt in the forumsit seems.. but good thing there is a search so I didn´t start a new threat.
Targeting friendlies( cycle), target whatever is in your sights, target targets target.. all needed.
Friendlies to know their loadouts and exact damage
And targets target..not only does it speed up focusing of your teamsfire, it also helpsto find out whomthe enemy is targeting.
