The variable was provided in this patch note. Just insert gp_option_ShowCockpitGlass = 0 in your user.cfg. You'll need to restart the client for it to take effect.

Extract from patch notes for your info.

gp_option_ShowCockpitGlass=0/1 (off/on)
r_DepthOfField=0/1 (off/on)
r_HDRGrainAmount=0.0-1.0 (film grain amount)

how do you get the user.cfg to work anyway?

I wanted to remove the glass and it doens't work, same with FOV adjustments.

I've seen people who claim their user.cfg doesn't work, and it tends to be because the file they have is really a user.cfg.txt (named user.cfg but the extension is a .txt file). different OS settings affects how see the file extensions.

Just placing a user.cfg file in the mechwarrior online folder really is all there is required.

Also note no changes will go into effect until you restart the game, you can't change it on the fly.

it is user.cfg and i've been in and out of the game for days since I added it. does it go in the root of mwo online folder or in your profile root?

Plase provide exact copy of these lines from your user.cfg, because I think that there might be problem with spaces around = and no matter what I try, I always see this stupid glass...
Thanks a lot...

As you correctly surmised, the problem lies with the spacing. Extract as follows:-

r_ColorGrading = 0
r_DepthOfField = 0
gp_option_ShowCockpitGlass = 0
r_HDRGrainAmount = 0.0

My user.cfg had all the correct spacing and I still had the cockpit glass show. I removed all spacing before and after the "=" and now my cockpit glass has vanished. The same worked for all my settings in the user.cfg.

gp_option_ShowCockpitGlass = 0 (with spacing, doesn't work for me.)

gp_option_ShowCockpitGlass=0 (without spacing, works. Glass is gone.)

Works for me with spacing, that's all I can tell you since I'm not a programmer or a Col. Pada Vinson ;)

hello guys there is no need to necromance this thread. :-)
there a some other threads dealing with the PGI-allowed user.cfg commands.

this one is by now against terms of use, even my patch could help a lot of ppl. :-(

Do all those config commands still work or have some been locked of? Would love it if PGI would provide us with a compiled list of options.

On the topic of these user.config files in the controller setting, is there a user config line that can be added to match the unzoomed sensitivity to the zoomed sensitivity?

I am having a hard time finding a truly good sensitivity setting that isnt to slow but isnt overly touchy. I am kinda there unzoomed, but when I zoom in the sensitivity jumps up and makes the reticule really damn touchy, making precise shooting with lasers and crap much harder.

So where is the most up-to-date thread dealing with PGI-allowed user.cfg commands? Because I can't find anything that has current, clear, and concise information regarding user.cfg.

I also want to know. What is the best user.cfg for a really low-end graphics card (running this game on a surface pro 3 i5 with 8 gigs of ram but onboard graphics card.

There is nothing significant you can do within your user.cfg to improve your performance - but disabling cockpit_glass
The best you can do is: reduce the most of you ingame video settings to low. Set textures and shading to medium or high (you have to test). Disable v-sync, motion blur and damage-glow. Set to fullscreen. At least reduce your resolution if FPS are still dropping below 20.

Out of interest what reason would you have for limiting frames per second other than on a low spec machine trying to prevent itself from doing excessive work allowing more resources to be applied to visual fidelity.

Surely higher frames per second is more important in this game for shooting lights?

Past 60 FPS, most people won't notice the difference so why stress the graphic card more than necessary?

FPS is an interesting topic and I used to think that 20 fps was enough to play and then I read THIS. Now I am totally confused but happy that my system runs at a steady 60-70 fps which is enough. Or is it? Wish I wouldn't have seen that page. Now I need SLI.

Just think about how deep motion blur is integrated into the CryEngine. :)
