After seeing the latest video, "Beta testing w/ Friends and Family," I'm a bit worried 'cause I didn't see anyone in the video using a joystick. I thought I read somewhere that there'll be joystick support. This will certainly be an "adjustment" for us ol' 'mechWarriors.

I wouldn't be overly concerned, those are the in-house systems, they probably couldn't afford decent joysticks because Paul blew the entire discretionary fund and all the petty cash to paint his cubicle pink.

Joystick, TrackIR, pedals, anything you can think of really. You should really go hunting a bit before you get so worried. ;3

I think I read somewhere in a Q&A that they are going to implament joystick control into the game or shortly their after launch

It has held true, 100% in the past across all developers who have released photos of their employees playing a beta that if no joystick was seen in the video it would mean that no joysticks would be supported when the game was released.

I'm.... truly sorry for your loss. Indeed, you are well founded in having much....MUCH...to worry about.

The friends & family beta was key and mouse likely because they would not expect anyone except us obsessive types to show up on closed beta with all the gear. It's good to know that the game will play with key and mouse just like the old days. So long as we don't have to perfect the "lag shot" everything will be fine. heheheheh

Really, a joystick? Maybe it's just me but I'd like to stick to the mouse and keyboard thank you.... maybe it's preference? I just don't see myself maneuvering as well as I could with it. then again, the only time i've used a joystick for a pc game was flight simulator.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, but still I would love to convert the (I believe it was Steel Batallion) Xbox cockpit controller over to usable with PC games.... but that is just me.

I WILL have my Sidewinder FF2 for this game! Even if I must resort to Glovepie eating my CPU cycles.

why joystick?... when you have the vastly superior mouse and keyboard.

It's been way too long since I played MW2 and I don't remember much of 3 and 4 but wasn't the main reason players liked the KB mouse setup in MW2 due to the movement speed for turning/twisting/up-down movement? It seems if there is any sort of rotation speed limits (x degrees/sec) it could make this setup less attractive than it was in the old days of MW2. I always liked at the very least a twist handle JS.

I won't miss lag shots even though lag usually worked to my advantage back when I was playing MW2 in 1996-1998. My lag would change with the weather due to line noise on old phone lines and I could usually adjust to it faster than the enemies. I doubt lag will be much of an issue since most players aren't using 56k dialup or less like in the old MW2 days. I'm curious to see how the game plays with a fios connection since all my MW2 time was on 56k or slower dialup.

I am a bit concerned here as well. I cannot fathom effectively running a battlemech with a mouse and keyboard. I am sorry to those of you who prefer this kind of clunky set up. I run a Saitek X52 flight control system. I prefer the ability to have my x/y/z axis's in my right hand along with 5 fire groups at my thumb/index finger and my throttle and jump jets in my left hand. I have played soo many games where this sort of set up is absolutely crucial to success that anything less than at the bare minimum of a joystick with twist function at launch is cause for concern.

No they just don't like friends and family. People you care about, you give joysticks. That or friends and family are expected to ask where is the remote when seated in front of a computer.

They (the devs) posted many pictures to show their insane joystick setups for the game and you are worried they would throw that money away and make it cheese eater/ keyboard only? ;)

I've only seen Paul's.

I can't aim with a joystick to save my life. It's pointed in the right direction, but 60% of the shots miss. It's too clunky, and I only use it for flight sims. With a mouse I can land more accurate shots, but manueverability becomes an issue. So I think I've come up with KMJ combo which seems to work well, atleast in MW4 Mercs. And shouldn't translate badly over to MWO.
