Hello All,

I am one of the two founders of the MWA (MechWarrior Arena Online) competitive league which was in operation during MW4 days (2001-2006). Over the last couple of months Carsten and myself have received a number of emails from people asking if we are planning on reviving MWA.

The purpose of this post is a request for expressions of interest. MWO in it's current format does not support competitive leagues. There are a number of changes that could be discussed, and I don't wish to bog this post down with those discussions.

If you would like to see a competitive league such as MWA return could you please like, comment in, and forward this post. In order for MWO to adapt to support competitive gaming your voice is required.

For those of you unfamiliar with competitive leagues, the super quick summary is: A system for tracking custom matches and providing a ladder. At the core of leagues such as MWA there is a rule set which puts a structure around how match settings are determined. Through the implementation of a bidding system match settings can becomes quite varied which assists in creating more dynamic game play. Also allowing for players to attempt to create match settings which favour their play style.

For those of you interested in what sort of changes would be required. At an undetailed and high level they are:
-Support for custom match making (such as that previously provided by MSZone or GameSpy)
-Ability to predefine game settings (including map, weight classes, team tonnage, ...)
-Support for multiple game types (Last man standing - FFA, last team standing, assault, death match, respawn enabled timed or kill count games, multiple teams in a single match)

There are also question raised such as:
-How does mech XP and cash persist within a custom game setting without opening up the MWO economy to exploitation?

If this is of interest to you and you welcome the return of MWA, please tell us.

With Thanks,
Ashleigh Green (Prophet)
Carsten Borg (Drow)

I would certainly be happy to see a community organized competitive ladder for MechWarrior: Online.

With regards to custom matches or scrims, my personal opinion is that it would be best for the game to simply not award any cash or experience for these matches but also incur no repair costs - Though the pilot should own the variant and all equipment on it in order to field it.

I know KaoS would join if this were possible.

This could be interesting and I would daresay that the company I belong to would like something similar.

What I don't like are external companies like gamespy or other crapware on my computer to track this. I would prefer to have PGI develop something to handle Competive League support.

Give PGI an opportunity to be able to get further with their plans and perhaps when community warfare is brought in then something like this can happen.

i'm sure the devs would love this. send an email to paul giving him a heads up. i dont see any reason they wouldn't want some league battle royal stuff going down in their game.

Hey,

Arisaema - Totally agree. If MWA was to make a comeback MWO would need to support custom match making internally. MWA - like most competitive leagues - would leverage off the built in MWO features and not require any local installations.

Maverick - Thanks for the suggestion. At this stage I'm also looking at casting my net wider and making sure there would be enough interest to warrent putting the league back together. We've had a couple of units contact us externally, and it's great to see a couple of people throw some unit names in here too.

Cheers,
-Ash

I would definitely like to see this in the future. Personally I think No CBills or XP should be awarded in these matches

Originally , if i remember correctly, the league site kept up with C-bills for the game and what mechs you owned. You aquired C-bills for the league by playing matches the more you won the more c-bills the match was worth and you could upgrade weapons but you could only use mechs that you owned thru the league, so nothing in game as far as MWO would count for league play...... Unless... MWO wanted to talk to these guys and somehow make this part of the game.... It was fun you could out right buy mechs and pay full price or you could buy them from the black market (with the chance of them being discovered and losing them during shipment) at a cut rate price and it might take a week for you to get your mech because well its the black market has to be smuggled in lol... anyway good luck folks I hope MWO contacts you guys trys to get something going for a more competitive play sooner.

a competetive league would be the end game really, and just as a guess i doubt many pgi want someone else to run their end game. just my opinion.

End game to me is the Planet and sector take overs not league play... and these guys have a heck of start for solaris play which is why i mentioned PGI getting in contact with them... and when they make training servers people can log onto and play against who they want for training... people are going to run leagues that way anyway...I was just trying to come up with the quickest way for some competitive play premades smashing PUGS for no reason will get old even when its premade vs premade its going to get old with no reward, so to speak.
