Here's a simple Atlas build that I decided to start using. I am a little upset at the slow movement and response time of the standard Atlas so I decided to increase the engine power, but I did not go XL because I do not want to be vulnerable to side torso kills. In the end, I settled for a 350 engine so that it can house 2 additional heat sinks so that I do not have to put any DHS on the arms (I let the enemy blow off my arms when in a pinch by torso twisting).

I'm far from being a good player and my ping is horrible, but the build is solid enough that it doesn't feel like I am piloting something that is too heavy. I can get behind cover faster and hide from LRMs and I can get to other locations on the map a little quicker than usual. Once you finish your elite efficiencies, this should be going over 60 kph.

The 4 Medium Lasers and Gauss Rifle are pretty standard and you also have your AMS. I chose to put 2 Streak SRM2s because I have problems hitting light mechs with my latency. They are still good to have and I chuck them even at other assault mechs for extra punch.

Endo Steel and DHS round it off. If you don't put DHS, 18 heat sinks won't be enough to give you decent DPS. Heat efficiency might go down if PGI decides to nerf engine DHS (currently 2.0 in engine instead of 1.4).

Armor is maxed in all places except the legs.

Anyway, here's the build:

Adding repair bill (after being cored) for sake of reference about its maintenance:

Feedback is also welcome. I already moved the AMS ammo to the leg and added case to the right torso for the gauss rifle as recommended, but I haven't updated the image yet. :P

I have a loosely similar Fastlas brawler, except I don't use the Gauss

After a couple of months trying to use them in closed beta, I just finally came to the conclusion that I don't enjoy using ballistics, so I focus on other builds.

I use the same standard 350 engine, but instead of gauss, I use 2xSRM6/s with Artemis.

I use 4 MPulse lasers, but am able to fit 24 DHS using standard structure. I find I connect and do a lot more damage to mechs with the pulse lasers than shooting part of the normal laser into the air while trying to keep a bead on the target.

I like this build. It is sometimes hard to do full damage with the SRM while doing the circle of death, but that is also when you get misses with the Gauss.

But there are many games where the SRM's do an insane amount of damage. Have had many games with > 1000 damage, all from brawling.

4 MPLs are pretty good on anything and very nice if you can spam them so what you have is also nice with the 24 DHS. I'm afraid I cannot play this game without SSRM2s at the moment due to latency and lag shooting lights on an assault is a PITA. I picked the Gauss Rifle to make up for the damage opportunity lost from not using Artemis SRM6s. The Gauss Rifle also gives me something for long range to force missile boats to hide for a few moments by pinging them on the nose and it's great to help me get a headshot on those mechs that decide to overheat and shut down in front of me.

I'll probably try the 4 MPL one on my RS. :P

I played both the RS and the D-DC, to build my Pilot Lab trees, but I did not have as much fun with them as I did in CB.

It seems the arms are targeted a lot and that left me feeling violated, especially with the RS.

With my Fastlas, I have gotten many kills after both side torsos and arms are gone. I just cannot imagine going into battle without some kind of backup weapon in the center torso, or head.

Small tip for OP: put the AMS ammo in the legs also, not in the side torso -> less ammo explosions ^_^ .

Also, I'd recommend getting CASE for your Gauss Rifle if you care about your durability. Move one ton of Gauss ammo to the legs to achieve that.

Good idea. I admit I was lazy and left it there! :)

I guess that's good too. I can always shave half a ton more from the legs. No one shoots them anyway. :)

I run a founders atlas brawler with 3x large laser rather than the 4 meds and it works really well. Nothing like 3 LL then a gauss strike to kill a LRM weakened opponent

I just got ahold of an atlas and have been messing around with some builds, but this one has been the most fun by far haha. Nothing really surpises a person more than getting blasted by a double-shotty to the chest or face at 100m or closer haha. This build is mainly for up close and personal brawls, but your enemies tend to flee when you land your first burst on them haha. Haven't finished the build yet though, still need to get endosteel and DHS, don't really want to get a better engine though, cause I don't want to sacrifice 11.5 tons more for an increase of only about 8kph. It is a bit spendy to rearm this bad boy, but when you're not trying to save up for anything it's so worth it. Anybody know what it's like to kill a full health Commando in 3 seconds? I do...
