just as i said, i see people upset about the 3rd person view, wanted to give options to the devs to consider, so lets give options, we know its coming, so lets not flame about that part. this is just for constructive posts(lol right)

http://mwomercs.com/...son-its-coming/

this is the discussion thread if you want to say how you feel about the change, this thread is only for how we want to implemented(i also kinda hope it gets derailed, but assuming it doesnt, how do we want it.

There should never be a 3rd Person view this is mech warrior not COD your in a mech and can see what you can from your meh cockpit and windows you have.

Third person should be a learning tool that has to weened off eventually, its should never have the option of being a permanent crutch.

i know, but like i said, this poll isnt about that, there are plenty of those, this is assuming its coming(which i dont want) but i say make lemonade, what would anger you the least to see, judging by your response its training only.

I voted for other option:

My solution is go play Hawken if you can't handle 1st person mech piloting!

No vote from me. No 3rd person whatsoever. Add cameras to mechs (forward, left, right, back) that display on in-cockpit MFDs.

We don't want it to work, we want it not to exist.

But hypothetically if it's put in i want it to be as abusable as possible so that the game turns into a hellscape of abuse (pop-tarting, camping, and all manner of new interesting cheesy crap we can think of) that make the lrm issue of a few weeks ago look like a perfectly balanced game. Because then it will have to be removed because the idea was stupid from the git go and there are no good reasons for it's implementation in this game that cannot be solved through other means.

How about 3rd person for spectators only?

Or barring that, only allow it for PUGs/Lonewolves not in group drops or community warfare?

Perspective changing is a part of time-honored MechWarrior heritage. Previous MW games have it as an option. Some matches have 1st/3rd perspective switching enabled, others are cockpit-view only. You're free to join whichever your want. But you're not free to force your favorite perspective on all of fanbase, in violation of MechWarrior heritage.

This is Mechwarrior, and Mechwarrior has always had 3rd person perspective as a option. If you want to play game that's FirstPersonShooter, instead of the strategy simulator that is Mechwarrior, go play Hawken.

I'd like it to be available only in spectator mode so that it doesn't affect gameplay.

Part of what makes a good game great is what Hollywood calls the "suspension of disbelief" factor.

The better the simulation, the closer you make it to feeling like you're actually "in" the mech, easier it is for us to "suspend our disbelief" and gets us into a deeper level of immersiveness.

Once we die, well, who cares, now it's time to watch what's going on and have fun cheering our team on like it's Monday Night Football, so the more viewing options as possible the better.

Well we are certain that many want the easy road, PGI is trying to figure out how to retain players, and many seem looking to have the game adjusted to "make them better" rather than simply taking the time to learn.

Unfortunately for those, this is not a one button game. And regardless of 1st person or 3rd person perspective that's not going to change.

Me, I don't really care. My commander says to kill Alpha, I kill Alpha and do so regardless of whether he is in a first or third person view, either way they become salvage.

Just my 3 cents

i agree on your opinion. unfortunately there r ppl who cant stand games with first person view. add a third person camera and tada... future players-buyers increase in number. imo having a 3rd person view available, in most cases, improves awareness of surroundings when compared to 1st person view. This shouldnt be the case here as the game is a mech simulator. i cant think of a way to make 3rd person view "equal" in surrounding awareness to 1st person view.

The way third person should work is the omnicient over-the-shoulder view from all the "Full [REDACTED]" games that make it such a must-have feature.

It should be engaged from the launcher. And as long as it's engaged the player should be restricted to a few "beginner" maps until they learn to play, then they can come out into the real game with the real Mechwarriors.

Earlier MechWarriors have also had a non-restricted MechLab, coolant flushing, skating jump jets, and in-mission repair and rearm, none of which are in this game.

The devs have said from the beginning that they want to convey the feeling that the player is the 'Mech's pilot, not the 'Mech itself, and a third person view runs directly counter to that.

They're not in MWO, but should be.

If we had the limited use coolant flushing from Mechwarrior heritage instead of MWO's Override button, heat management would have been strategic instead of FPS style Override button mashing abuse.

If we had skating jump jets we would've had strategically planned hillside passbys instead of FPS style twitch merry-go-around piloting.

If we had in-game repair and rearm sites, we would've had strategic planning, holding, and defense of these sites, and the dilemma of the choice of diverting mechs from base capping and the front lines, instead of FPS style zerg rush ending the game in 3 minutes.

MWO should be a proper strategic Mechwarrior game, built upon the shoulders of these before it, not a FirstPersonShooter wannabe.

Be one with your mech, not piloting it. To a Mechwarrior, mech is an extension of your limbs. Read up on lore, it's interesting stuff.

MWO should be a Mechwarrior game, not a twitchy FirstPersonShooter.
