This is a bit of resurrected OCD from my Battletech board game days. I'm not normally like this in terms of how I spend my time or am otherwise able to focus my attention, but at the risk of seeming obsessive compulsive, here goes. ;) I had found this old doc and had shared it with some friends about a year ago.

I'm curious. Has anyone noticed anything remotely similar in Mechwarrior Online to what this doc examines from the board game?



In the board game, there seemed to be a bell curve of optimum tonnage for trying to have certain movement values. This is not to say that this mech or that couldn't still be awesome for other reasons—just an objective examination of 'bang-for-your-buck' values tonnage-wise for attempting to have certain speeds.

For example, if you wanted to make a custom mech that could walk 5 hexes, run 8 hexes, and jump 5 hexes, then 55 tons was at the top of the 3025 tech bell curve with 25.5 tons leftover for weapons, armor, and other equipment. Griffins and Wolverines from the board game, as examples. If you didn't care about jump jets, then 60 tons was the 'winner' with 29 tons leftover. It's also interesting to note that for a movement of 7/11 (the default movement for 3025 Jenners), the Jenner is near the top of the bell curve for the board game (coming in only half a ton behind a 40 ton mech like the Assassin). Given this and that it's almost a medium in terms of tonnage (the heaviest a light mech can possibly be), it doesn't seem surprising that despite being a light the Jenner was a very effective fast strike/combat/harasser mech in the board game.

Note:
Base speeds (i.e.: 7/11) in board game hexes form the tabs at the bottom of the doc. For each tab, a 3025 bell curve is examined at the top, and a different one (resulting from XL engines and endo steel internal structure) appears at the bottom. The introduction of XL and endo steel seemed to move the optimum tonnage for the same speeds to slightly heavier mechs.
