Is variable gravity going to be implemented in the release?

By this I mean if you are fighting on a high gravity world do you jump jets become less effective, do you take longer to get up if knocked down, do you slow down more going up hills etc

On the Other side on a low gravity moon do you soar like an eagle with jump jets? Do you become less agile (think like trying to run underwater except withOut the water resistance)

Would be interesting to have, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

Yeah, it would be interesting, but then again, just as pursang said, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Wait a minute. I just had Deja Vu.

That would be a great gameplay mechanic for a few maps. Let's hope sometime post launch they get a chance to play with this idea.

Cheers.

This sort of feature should be technically trivial to implement in CryEngine 3.

Although it might be more difficult from a balance perspective. So maybe something to do at some point after release.

Yes I easily see this. Gravity is a simple setting in sandbox, so I can easily see different levels of gravity per different planets.

I have a feeling this is the kind of thing we'll see in post-release themed maps. The first available maps in the beta will probably be intended to test out the balance under various more "normal" conditions, and we'll probably see specialised maps like zero-G, underwater, lava flow kind of maps later on.

At least, that's my hope.

I think you're right. I don't think it would be that far of a stretch to say that PGI may even poll the community to see what kind of maps they want to play on.

At launch, well, like everybody already said. May have enough going on just making the 1g maps.

Myself I would love some low gravity maps but I do envision myself dying allot if I have jumpjets...

Didn't they try this in MWLL?

I doubt they will worry about gravity too much. As humanity expands they're going to choose planets with gravity close to 1G (9.8067 m/s/s) to inhabit. The rest will be relegated to stripping of resources as needed.

Not ALL resources worth defending are in 1g environments. We have asteriods in our inner solar system a mile wide comprised of gold. Some businessmen are already discussing mining them and setting up a corporation off world (orbit) to avoid international treaty red tape.

A lot of levels over mw series have been set On moons asteroids and giant lumps of ice. I can't speak for the books but there is a large amount Of evidence to digest thatech combat happens with non earth gravity.

I just think it would be funny to have a very low gravity, an assault mech with twin ac/20 point blank alpha striking a Jenner and watching it sail off into the sunset on its back.

And it will add s nice depth to the game.

And as the Jenner flies off into the sun set, the pilot says "were blasting off again!!"

I can understand it from a lore and singleplayer perspective, but the truth of things is in a pure multiplayer game people will just complain about it. Either mechs with JJ's will be considered OP or people will deride anyone who tries to use jumpjets because they'll be stuck floating uselessly for a while till gravity can pull them back down.

The same generally holds true for things like night maps, heavy weather maps, maps with heavy concentration on either close quarters or wide open combat, etc.

Essentially - most people don't like being taken too far out of the norm. Gravity is one of those fundamental settings, like having enough light to see your enemy. Best not to force it on people in multiplayer.

One exception to this is if you can filter out or specifically opt in to maps with low gravity/altered gravity settings.

I'd love it if we did a map like the jump-map from Quake 3.

Moving to suggestions!

i agree it should be part of any map, as i see it it should be same like when you check on map how much heat cooling is effective. Its strange that every planet have 9.81g.

To be honest... I don't see why there can't be heavy gravity worlds or lighter for that matter. I'm sure there are going to be ice/ tundra worlds or locations on a world and or hot humid jungle worlds and or lava based words. These world map types will play into heat effects so why not have gravity effects too. I want to see a mech fall on its behind if it fails to stop on Ice too lol.

As a post launch I wouldn't be suprised to see it. Why not if they are already going to have drop for ballistics. Which the high or low gravity would make go farther or not as far. Might (though I don't know for certain) effect the amount of damage heavy gravity I would think would increase damage a little bit. Maybe not enough to implement that though.
