I got every mech i wanted to master (15 variants of 9 chassi) and somehow ended up playing only the YLW, the CN9-A and the IL. The only thing that was kind of missing was lasers.

The HBK-4P didnt cut it, it ran to hot and red lasers are evil! I was thinking about the cicadas but a bigger JR7-F wannabe that sports ECM to make up for its lack of personality? Nah, thanks...

It ended with the something really enjoyable:

AWS-9M

upgrades: DHS

engine: 380 XL (comes with 5 heatsink slots)

weapons: 6x Medium Pulse Laser, 1x SRM6 with 2 tons of ammo in the legs

Strip armor from legs to 53 each and fill up with DHS (23).

set right arm mplas to grp2 (added movement, use it)
set torso mplas to grp1 (fire grp 1&2 if it gets to cold in the cockpit)
set torso mplas to grp3 and chain them (this is where the build got its name from)
set left arm srm6 to grp4 (the arm mount wont launch all 6 at once, complements our lasersaw nicely)

Alternative loadout:

4x Medium Pulse Laser, 3x SRM4 (running this atm.)

I have something similar but without the XL. 350 Standard and no missiles, but pretty much the same. I'm still not sure if I'll play it enough (waiting on PPC fixes) to justify the XL engine cost. Should be fun though and make a few smaller mechs sweat once an Awesome comes around the corner at that speed.

I kill lights with ease in this. Faster than on any other mech i have. 6x pulse is the best lagshield weapon since streakcats ^^

While i play mechs extensively before i post anything about them i did this writeup after 1 pug drop (lost) in the config. Theres so much potential and its fun as hell.

I've tried it with an XL385 and 6 MLAS, as with a smaller XL and some PPC's - the speed is awesome, and helps a lot for survivability, which i'm sure you're already aware of.

I'm now running something very similar to you, with a STD 350, and I can honestly say that i don't miss the XL at all. I'm way more survivable now, and I can abuse the fact that the 9M is one of the best zombies in the game, with it's 3 center based hardpoints. I'm still boggled every time someone pares my torsos, dusts their hands and moves on. KERBLAMMO.

3 streaks, 1 LL & 3 MLAS or 2 streaks 5 MLAS is also awesome.

I've been running an XL385 with 3LL and 3MPLs on mine. You can tag stuff at a good distance, and you still have a good deterent against lights with it.

I'm probably going to try for a 350XL with 3x PPCs if the update pushes through. I've been trying to work PPCs into my game for awhile now but firing delay, travel time, and heat issues make it kinda hard for me with my 300+ ms average ping.

Let's not even get into hitting lag-shielded lights.

Considering how much I enjoyed your Killstreak build, I'll certainly have to give this one a try when I (re-)buy my 9M.

(Yes, I am going to give the big clunker another shot. I learned to love the other Awesome variants after all.)

I FEEL YOUR PAIN, my ping hovers aroung the 280 mark. One trick I found that is moderately successful; tag. I laze up a target with tag, and fire an instant -after- it flashes red. Usually my crosshairs are tracking from behind -> front of a moving target, and waiting a quarter second or so will usually score me a hit.

I have tag on continuously. There's a few methods listed regarding this on the forums. Mine is fairly complex though, and is not for the faint of heart.

1. Set tag to group 6.
2. Get yourself some HARD CURRENCY. I find Australian currency works best, because it's Australian.
3. Carefully place said currency on the 6 key, in the following (important!) order;
- 2 x $2 coin
- 3 x 10c coin
- 2-3 50c coins (dependant on keyboard key tension/pressure/whatever)

If you set it up just right, there should be just enough weight to hold the key down, while still allowing it to remain raised if you so desire. If you happen to smash your keyboard in frustration, LEAVE THE MONEY WHERE IT FALLS! 20 or 30 repeats of this, and you may have saved enough cash for a bobble head, or maybe even some friggin Christmas lights!

I actually bought the Christmas Lights accidentally when I decided to buy the Liao banner after making this guide for a newbie in the Welcome forum. ;)

"well actually sir, I think these lovely Christmas lights lend an aura of good cheer to yo-" * BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM *

That's because Christmas lights are contraband in Liao space.

I have no plan to buy a 9M since I've already completed my AWS trio, but I really think you can push this build a bit further.

Like buying Endo and replacing the arm MPL with an ERPPC.

Brawling with an XL engine is never a good idea, especially with Awesome who has the body size of a wall.

Didnt work for me, you cannot fit enough heatsinks for the ppcs/er large lasers (or long range ballistics) to do any meanigfull dmg at range.

Everything i tried worked better on an Atlas, esp. the RS and i dont play that chassi because it bores me to death. You cannot do the above on an Atlas though, its to slow.

I just pulled the trigger on an 8T, so need to grab some c-bills first for that mighty XL engine, but will happily try out that config, although I don't really like brawling with the Awesome, it just feels so clumsy - maybe the large engine will change my mind :)

I perfer the 4LL and 1 6SRM build for my 9M, also upgraded the engine to the XL350. You multiple roll/support out of this mech.

With the speed of 385 I find that 2 ppc 2 smr6 and 2 meds work pretty well. Only started awses, going to take a while to figure out how this thing survives best, but a 20 punch at range and a solid 40 at point blank feels right.
Last match - we lost conquest - I appeared to be the last survivor badly damaged too... legged a raven from 800m and finished him right before they scored 750 pts. With current PPC speed and absence of delay it's fun.

If it fits go 3x srm4 instead of 2x srm6. Tighter spread and lower cooldown.
