custom paint is great. if you are able to run normal vision mode and/or your team is prearranged.
for thermal or nv however, everyone reverts to big purple blue bruises or green and black garish blobs.
the suggestion here is simple. pick a part of each chassis, preferably on some area that can't be blown off, and add a decal for team 1 or team 2 that is fully automatic based on which side you drop on.
make this decal equivalent to ir reflective tape so it's visible in nv or thermal mode as well.
target identification through visuals solved.
this is a major oversight, as your options for playing with the visual fidelity you have with the cryengine base are one of the strongest points you have(visual camo can actually be well done enough to matter if it matches the map and region a mechs sitting in, so likewise visual iff decals seems a rational no brainer.).
maybe this is already in the works, but if not, and especially in light of the ecms' impacts, i would strongly suggest passing this along to the art department.

This would be handy. It would allow fewer team kills during no-hud bugs and when firing from outside into a fur ball under the ECM bubble. Could be a unique color or shape....or even something similar to the 9Volt IR blinkers many US personal carry during night operations--I imagine them mounted on top of each mech shoulder.

the two parts that come to mind are the cockpit and the ct, and I feel real funny about hanging what amounts to a bullseye over either area.
How ever, allowing the 'q' key to toggle team info on and off would really accomplish the same thing, that little blue triangle all your team mates have above there mech just can't be seen by so many for some reason.
Maybe, just maybe if they fixed the hud bug they wouldn't have to do all that coding for a workaround to the no hud workaround... think?
