"RNR has been removed from the game to facilitate a better overall user experience and game balance. All BattleMechs and Items will be repaired to 100% health during downtime on Tuesday the 18th."

For just a tiny second, I was mad bro, then enlightened acceptance.

I realized that the few post, from the few concerned about wanting it back in, would be easier to swallow than wasting Dev time, trying to make it work.

Much more so, than against the long winded complaints that it was ruining the game and making it too, too, hard and it being gone eventually anyway.

On with the game :).It was the smart thing to do.

I almost thought I was reading an april fools joke when I read that. R&R is one of the things I felt PGI actually did right when they got it up and running a few months ago. If it's removed then we are just back to square one. Getting small rewards per game and never having to worry about repairs was where we were at five months ago.

But what is really blowing my mind on this, is if R&R is being removed, why do we still have trial mechs? If new players are going to earn big bonus money for their first 25 matches, then what is the point of all this? Just have new players start out with 6M cbills! That would allow them to buy nearly any mech (excluding the ones that start with XL engines) and they never have to worry about repairs...

Trial mechs are still stupid.

To let them try out the weight classes to see what mechs they want to buy first.

It doesn't matter now, since they get out of them quickly.

Trial mechs are more learning experiences anyways. by doing this they are still forcing new players to learn how to play on sub-optimal machines, then letting them hit the mech bay far sooner.

The problem with giving new players a bunch of cbills right away is that it forces them to make a choice (what kind of mech they want) before they get a feel for the game. While the trial mechs could still use some adjustment they do allow newbies to try out various roles before committing to anything.

You learn nothing from them.

The first thing you do after you buy a mech is rip out excess weapons and put in more heatsinks.

Why would you ever think people learn anything from playing in sub-optimal robots? What's wrong with you? They have to 'earn' the right to play in real mechs? I'm so happy the system is being revised, and no one will have to endure 50 matches to buy a hunchback ever again.

I would point out that I know a lot of people who do a few matches a night in trial mechs to learn heat discipline,

There's that buzzword again. Heat discipline.

It truly is a magical skill stopping my dakka for all of one second to let my mana bar refill. Truly. It needs a DEDICATED PILOT. A man ON A MISSION.
The glorious sim gods demand it.

Wait, this isn't a sim. It's a shooter, and it has a mana bar that controls your firepower. It also has charges for the more powerful spells.

don't mana bars usually go down when you shoot stuff, instead of up?

Final nail in the coffin of the streakcats. Good riddance.

But of course, streak rearm on my commando is going to be a bit more expensive. Hopefully they make it a little more intuitive on how many rounds we're refilling. Give us a slider or something.

What? I think you may have misunderstood - there will be NO COST FOR RE-ARM. :D Geddit?

And there is calm in the universe... So say we all.

We have graduated... like it or not.. to Little league Mechwarrior.. we all get trophies.

And what a relief.

What concerns me most about this change is that instead of a reason to not take as many upgrades as you can cram into your mech now it's become a linear progression where you upgrade your mech and then profit forever.

I don't read the dev post as the costs of repair and re-arm being waived.

I read it as you having no choice BUT to pay for full repair and re-arm. Aka no more 75% free repair/free re-arm.

Same principle. You must cease spamming, or you'll suffer feedback/not be able to defend yourself/cooldown forever.

You can use less mana, and more charges (gauss), more mana, and no charges (large pulse lasers), and so on.
I find this to be the best way to explain the heat system. People catch on quick when you highlight what's really going on, instead of pretending there's magical depth and heat discipline.

I was pretty little when I played mystic quest (final fantasy adventure for the americans) on the original gameboy, but it didn't take many minutes to figure out how this system works.

Thats true.. but at the same time, they are reducing choice, and by introducing a subsidy to pay for that reduction in the form of a seemingly free yet mandatory repair and rearm. Its like making you buy into a government program and calling it coverage.

Then taxing your "Win" or "Lose" income accordingly to pay for that subsidy.Whether you ever needed it or not.

Where the hell have I heard this before?

You're implying this isn't how it always was.
