It's all a matter of taste and OCD that's all. While I do certainly group my weapons on the battlefield, I just wish that I could have both my right and left torso have the same weapons in the same order, so it looked nice, and when i dropped into a battle, I'd have a much better idea of which large laser is on my right and which is on my left.
Ah, now I see where you are coming from....
From experience (not 100% sure but seems to me), when you see your weapon loadout, the ones at the top tend to be on the right side of your mech, for example...
If I'm in my Atlas D with 1xML on each arm, 2xML in my CT, 1xGauss in my RT, and 2xSRM6 in my left, my weapon loadout reads:
- MEDIUM LASER
- MEDIUM LASER
- SRM 6
- SRM 6
- GAUSS RIFLE
Where the top 2 are in the arms, and the others are in the torso, as to which is which, it would be:
- CENTRE TORSO
- LEFT TORSO
- RIGHT TORSO
So, if you know what weapons are located where on your mech, you know that (in the case of the arms) the weapons listed at the top will always be in the right arm (say you have 2 ML in your right arm and 1 in the left, the top 2 will be the right arm ones), and the torso mounted weapons go CT, LT, RT from top to bottom.
So on my Cataphract 2X it looks like this...
If the mech was capable of mounting weapons in the CT, they would listed above the ML in the LT (apologies for giving an Atlas example then following it up with a Cataphract, but it was the only picture I had handy

).
I hope this is more what you were after guys
