Apologies if this is covered someplace else - a quick forum search didn't bring up any results.

I know it's not horribly important, but the way that the mech lab 're-orders' weapons is completely confusing.

If I put a LRM10 -> MEd. Laser -> Med. Laser on the left side of a STK-3F and the exact same setup on the right side, after I save the loadout, the weapons will shift around. That means when I drop into a match, instead of the weapons being listed in some semblance of order on the UI, they show up like:
Med. laser
Med. laser
Med. laser
LRM 10
Med. laser
LRM 10

Any ideas on how to make the order of weapons in the mech lab 'stick'?

Another Example - on the Right Torso I load:
Med. laser
Med. laser
LRM 10

I save.

I go to Loadout, I see (on the Right Torso):
Med. laser
LRM 10
Med. laser

Grrrr. Thanks to anyone that can help.

I'd like to know how this is determined as well, with an eye towards editing it.

Would also love to know why my STK-5M insists on assigning my LRM5 the missile tube, and my LRM20 the narc tube (no matter what order I put the weapons in)

I would also love to know the answer to this.

I know the arm weapons are always at the top, torso at the bottom so far as weapon groupings - but the order it picks within each group or what graphical hardpoint is used is definitely odd sometimes.

Does it really matter which order your weapons appear on your screen, you group them anyway....I hope! :P

PS. They might get messed around because...

'o' are for arm mounted
'+' are for torso mounted

It's all a matter of taste and OCD that's all. While I do certainly group my weapons on the battlefield, I just wish that I could have both my right and left torso have the same weapons in the same order, so it looked nice, and when i dropped into a battle, I'd have a much better idea of which large laser is on my right and which is on my left.

This bugs me so much. I can imagine how annoying it would be to keep getting lrm20's in a NARC tube. NARC tubes ftw though!
Go ravens and stalkers for the narc tube!

Actually it's also a matter of chain-firing, and the a fore mentioned trying to fire an lrm 20 through a narc beacon port.

also the amount of weapong groups I dont want 6 all the time, If I have 3 groups I dont what to see 3 blank groups because you have to rotate through them to get to the first group.

Yeah, the whole "Fire my weapons one by one until I figure out which side they are on" routine when I change loadouts is pretty annoying. Especially when it's with big LRM launchers that I am dumbfiring just to work out my keybindings.

Some may ask, why bother? With a Cat, it's pretty useful to be able to fire one side or the other, as one launcher/weapon will often be tucked behind a hill or something. Makes for some good missile sniping when you can peek one side out from behind a ridge.

Ah, now I see where you are coming from....

From experience (not 100% sure but seems to me), when you see your weapon loadout, the ones at the top tend to be on the right side of your mech, for example...
If I'm in my Atlas D with 1xML on each arm, 2xML in my CT, 1xGauss in my RT, and 2xSRM6 in my left, my weapon loadout reads:
  • MEDIUM LASER
  • MEDIUM LASER
  • MEDIUM LASER
  • MEDIUM LASER
  • SRM 6
  • SRM 6
  • GAUSS RIFLE
Where the top 2 are in the arms, and the others are in the torso, as to which is which, it would be:
  • RIGHT ARM
  • LEFT ARM
  • CENTRE TORSO
  • LEFT TORSO
  • RIGHT TORSO
So, if you know what weapons are located where on your mech, you know that (in the case of the arms) the weapons listed at the top will always be in the right arm (say you have 2 ML in your right arm and 1 in the left, the top 2 will be the right arm ones), and the torso mounted weapons go CT, LT, RT from top to bottom.

So on my Cataphract 2X it looks like this...

Posted Image

If the mech was capable of mounting weapons in the CT, they would listed above the ML in the LT (apologies for giving an Atlas example then following it up with a Cataphract, but it was the only picture I had handy :P ).

I hope this is more what you were after guys :P

so then why is the lrm 10 between 2 medium lasers on the stalker? it makes no sense.

We should by now have been able to set weapons groupings and view weapons order in the mechlab. But no, making the Christmas fluff was sooo much more important to overall game play.

Weapons generally go in this order:

Right Arm
Left Arm
---
Left Torso
Right Torso
Center Torso

However, I've found that this wasn't entirely the case. At least one stalker variant had them out of order, so that when I grouped my arm lasers, they went Right, Left, Left, Right (with the missiles mixed in).
