not a new idea. i remember hearing before about jump systems that did not rely on jet propulsion somewhere within the lore.
put simply these would be massive pistons that are designed to apply sudden and violent pressure to the legs causing the mech to leap into the air.
game mechanics:
--once in the air there would be no rotating legs or hovering everything would be determined the moment you left the ground.
--the jump height would be determined by how long you held down the jump button, the jump would happen as soon as you release the jump button.
--your fuel bar would be reduced by the amount of your jump, but would still recharge just like standard jump jets.
--when you first press the jump button there would be a loud metallic klang followed by a very loud thud (ground impact) when you release the button and actually jump. (much louder than jump jets)
--the act of jumping would ONLY apply upward force, any forward movement would come solely from the momentum of your mech.
for those who care: i thought of this because i am frustrated with how jump jets work currently and have heard that there will be very few changes to them. and as for the name i could not remember the actual name of these so i made something up that made sense to me.

I'm no BT expert but I have to say I'm not satisfied by your reference to "somewhere in the lore".
Sarna.net makes no reference to other Jump mechanisms than Jump Jets as far as I could find.
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Jump_Jets
Also, if you are going to make up your own gameplay mechanic out of thin air, you should learn how to spell "hydraulic" first.
Finally, even if a mechanical jump was allowed, I don't think it would get you very far. A running jump would need to be launched from one leg, and a standing jump would only allow you to hop straight up in the air.
Sorry, I've got to give this one a thumbs down.

They're called mechanical jump boosters and don't get introduced for another ten years.

i never claimed that it was anything more than something i halfway remembered from a long time ago. i also looked very hard on sarna trying to find any sort of reference to it, but sarna is a wiki and it only has what the community members add to it. there are untold numbers of battletech rulebooks, fiction, games and so on. it would be stupid to assume that every obscure rule or reference made it to that one website.
and i am sorry i did not submit this topic to you for editing. it was early in the morning and i was tired when i thought of this so mistakes were made, but i foolishly thought the general content was more important than some spelling errors. i probably misplaced several commas too. (i have in other posts claimed that i try to avoid sarcasm, but i guess that is a flat lie. some people would really benefit from realizing how stupid they are though. i try not to cross that line unless profound stupidity or douchebaggery has been demonstrated.)
you never take any time to address the core idea though. you have no counter argument so you bash me directly hoping to discredit me without ever facing the merits of the argument i put forth.
