Just to double check (ha!) my information, the patch notes say that the engine heat sinks are 1.4x just like the external sinks - but some guy in a post I read claimed the ones in the engine are truly double sinks. Which is it? I'm going by the patch notes, but I want to make sure.

The first 10 in the engine are double as far as I know and it's been confirmed by the devs in some posts. You can probably search for it but I don't remember which ones to post the source.

More often than not, you'll want to upgrade to DHS asap.

Didn't find what you mentioned in the patch notes, can you give a link please?
Also, a medium pulse laser creates 5 heat every 3 seconds with a pulse time of 0.75 seconds, what results in 5 / 3,75 = 1.33333333 = ~ 1.4 heat per second
So, you would need 14 shs to fully dissipate the heat.

Strip down a mech to just its engine (at least 250 sized, obviously) and equip one medium pulse laser. Make sure you test on a temperature neutral map! If you can perma fire the laser but it being a close call, then they reduced internal dhs to 1.4, if its not a close call, they are still on 2.0. Please post your results!

Eh, I think I'll pass on dropping with a crippled Battlemech and letting my team suffer. I'll just see if my 10 double internals give me roughly the same heat efficiency as my 19 normal heat sinks in the mech lab.

Nope! Heat efficiency went down from 1.27 to 1.09. Also, double heat sinks have been 1.4 since 1.0.142. I'll have to check and see if I can use my tonnage efficiently enough to warrant double heat sinks. I'm modding an Atlas, so ironically, critical space is tight.

heat efficiency rating might be calculated seperately, better to test ingame.

I intend to test it when I buy my next stalker, but that'll take a while, not nearly enough cbills yet.

Well, the 14 double sinks I ended up with work better than my 19 single sinks, but without actually screwing my team over by dropping crippled, it's hard to get better data, so I'll just leave it alone for now. In order to test it without stripping my 'mech, I'll have to test with a different weight class.

"Double heat sinks are now 1.4 times as effective as standard heat sinks. This includes DHS's that you place on your Mech as well as those integrated into the engine.".

But anyway someone can confirm this?

Please read number 1 of this post:

Engine heatsinks (upto the first 10) are 2.0, all others are 1.4

Heat efficiency bar is sort of broken. It is only accurate with SHS. The 2.0 engine DHSs get treated as 1.4.
