Does anyone know if it's possible to adjust the FoV of the two zoom levels? Would be nice to have first zoom be a little wider, and thus more useful for medium-range combat.

Also, thank you for this thread.

what if I turn my 16:9 monitor 90 degree and change the settings on my display so everything displays upright..

brilliant idea, theoretically you should be able to see your whole body :D

not possible afaik, could be considered cheating as well, even though i agree the 1st zoom lvl could be a bit wider

well changing the fov is same as changing the zoom level, so changing the fov of the 1st zoom level is just.... changing the magnification. also, anyone try a narrow FOV like 5 degrees? that's some high zoom...

logged in just to say THANK YOU! this is really nice on my 16:9 monitor

now if only they'd add more stuff to help immersion such as added recoil after firing a big AC20, shakes when walking the mech, and internal shadows and sparks inside the cockpit

great guide. I use 85 on 1080p and it is perfect, just as you noted above, but it doesnt look good for 4:3 res.

There is some minor adverse side effects, if found when piloting my 138KPH Jenner that if I turned fast enough, well this happened.http://Posted Image

i run with cl_fov = 75 and am fine with it. It shows the kittenpit.. without showing only the kittenpit.

Funnily, the mechlab - Screen changes too.

But yes, switching to it really, really helped the "im Pilot-feeling".

Just create a txt file, name it "user.cfg", put it in correct folder and it should be fine.

Remember to set your folder options to show file extensions to do this, so you can change the extension from .txt to .cfg.

Dumb dumb me forgot I had that setting off, so I made user.cfg.txt instead lol. No wonder it didn't work lol.

Personally I use 75. 80 gave me the impression that my straight monitors were bending slightly.

I mentioned the fact that your head gets dislocated off of the torso of the pilot while in any mech without lower arm actuators. The guys at IGP doing a twitch.tv event didn't know what I was talking about even as it happens on screen for the guy in the Cicada (wasn't Garth though Garth was in another Cicada). On the Raven 3L you can see your view leave the cockpit through the windshield at only 75 as a field of view for 1280x720 resolution if you turn fast enough with armlock off.

Also this is the reason lighting is so weird inside the cockpits when the sun is at your back. I've requested a few times in ATD that they put back walls on the cockpits for that very reason. Crafty people can also use this as a rear-view camera in the Atlas.

Edit: Without. Not with. Without lower arm actuators.

Partly, yes.

Also press "." to turn off the cockpit lights. That helps.

There is actually a seperate model for the player's mech, with the cockpit attached...

Someone somehow took some screenshots of these models from the outside...

Don't ask me how whoever uploaded these got them...

Wow. I knew there was no way some of the cockpits matched the 'mech models (Stalker and Raven seemed especially obvious) but I didn't know the difference was THAT bad. A couple of them are almost right(Cataphract, Jenner, Catapult), although still too big... While others (Atlas, Commando, Hunchback) are insane. No wonder things in-game don't give the sense you're a in a giant war machine. You're not seeing them the way a human would!

I always felt the views killed immersion by not being accurate, in both location and size. Not to the same degree MW4 killed immersion, but definitely still there. Although it's pretty obvious this isn't going to change, at least I know I'm not imagining the effect. It's a real shame, too, because PGI has put in a ton of detail into other minutiae in the game, such as the way missile tubes interact with missile launchers. Nothing, literally nothing, would have made the game more immersive than accurate points of view for the pilot. Seeing as sight is humans' primary sense and all. And yeah, I can see the problems with doing such viewpoints correctly - Hunchback illustrates this pretty well. I think the problems would have been worth it, as they really just add character to individual 'mechs. Oh well :/

That headless disembodied pilot pic is pretty funny, too :D

This doesn't work, like, at all. I don't even have the same directories as you guys and I tried making a user.cfg but it doesn't change anything in the game.

What does your main directory look like (C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online)? Can you post a screenshot?
