The command console currently does nothing, i have no idea what the Devs have in mind for this item, but i just wanted to throw my ideas into the pile.

Introduce a "mini-game" as such. Which allows the player to load up the maps outside of the game. From here you can then lay out waypoints and objectives which can then be mappped to custom "Tactic Slots" whilst using the command console.

Meaning: at the beggining of a round i could engage "Attack Protocol Alpha" (a custom set up made outside of the game) this would then lay down multiple waypoints for my team-mates and type commands into the Team chat so people would notice the commands laid out.

Example: Say i was on frozen city. Game starts, I take command and engage a tactic i've laid out. Automatically there are 2 waypoints on the map, one move to tunnel, another hold before the ridge, all of this typed into the team chat. "3 max to tunnel, the rest hold the other side of the ridge and wait for further instructions"
After a few minutes we find that we need to move forward, I engage another tactic that i've made up, Markers move, now we have a flank marker an advance marker and another flank marker. "Push over ridge" "tunnel party move around and engage from the rear" "2 move wide right and provide support from afar"

All of this from a few presses of the keyboard.

This "could" mean that tactics and strategy could be changed on the fly with a commander who would have to spend a bit of time outside of stomping around getting plans laid out on maps.

I believe this would add a bit of depth to the game and maybe make people use the battlemap and commands possibly get followed out.

Apologies if this is hard to read, i've written it in abit of a hurry as i've gotta fly out. Looking forward to some feedback ladies and gents.

Have a good day now.

With running around in the three Raven's I have died a lot, be it due to running into the entire opposing team, 4 frames per second or less at times or just lag.

This has lead me to watch the map, identify targets and just keep track of the different mechs on the other team by switching between different cockpit views. This has provided me with some insights on how a command console might function since I have started to issue commands and people actually started acting on them. Since the double XP weekend I have been changing how I move, fight or flight. This is allowing me to sneak, observe and report. Then people are listening and using what I tell them to engage the other side. Then I can go to certain points where I can hide (target), shoot or start harassing the rear line.

Here is what a command console needs:
  • maintain a listing of the different red team mechs with the weapons and health status. maybe add info like has ECM.
  • Maintain a listing of the blue teams mechs and health/weapons status.
  • have the ability for the commander to either pilot and command, pilot with an other player in the back to take over command in combat or have another person pilot and they just command.issue command symbols that are displayed on the HUD instead of just on the map. (changes to the plan after contact.)
  • have the ability to chose which mech view to look through
  • maintain a larger map on the HUD or use the map as the main view.have certain keys for standard alerts. Like for responding to base cap, do a base rush, charge, get the lights shooting the assaults in the back. Bluff assault and fall back to regroup.
  • Have a map overlay system. identify fall back positions. FASCAM or other minefields. Known reference points for Calls for fire. (Example: point XX east 200 north 300)
  • Assign route to the objective with assigned over-watch locations.
  • Then as the game progresses, you will have other input devices (UAV's) and new sensor packages.
The command chair does have a use, and if an extra person is in the game just directing the fight, it could be a game changer. As larger maps are introduced, I would guess that this system would be more of a use. River City due to the size it could be harder to use this system, but Caustic and Forest Colony it could be a force multiplier now.
