I bought a 5V, I didn't name it anything, but in retrospect, I should have named it Nancy.I'm might eventually paint it pink and white.

I bought a D. It's named BIRD FOOD. When the game starts working for me again, I'll bling it with expensive paint, like it's a swedish APC. All this, because it's just a joke.

The mech's completely useless right now.

I named mine Icarus. I can't think of a more appropriate name.

This. It's useless there, and it's useless here.

Then by that logic, if you end up killed by a Spider, how would one justify being killed by a "useless" mech?

I doubt we'll ever know, since I haven't seen a spider kill anything in 6 straight hours of playing MWO unless it was a killsteal.

CTF ?

If that variant was in.....Spider would be the best flag runner hands down.

CTF would be hella fun actually.... where your flag had to be home in order to capture the enemies.

Respawn of course. Hella fun. Make this mod plz.

I killed two mechs with mine. Our other spider driver has killed maybe ten mechs total so far. Not very impressive. I guess it's a bit like getting killed by Dan Hibiki.

That is, you know you got laid low by an actual pro, and luck had nothing to do with it.

Okay.
It has so many jets, it can move like something out of tribes, but it has almost no guns, weak armor, and requires a gigantic sum of money to setup to be useful. Two out of three versions are completely useless, fit only for grinding elite.

Ok now what's the downside?

People die to machineguns and flamers also.

Still doesn't make it a good option.

Not really, because slopes aren't helped by jets unless they're unclimeable. Otherwise you're moving at the same speed up a hill or on a plain. Jets are only useful when near absolutely unclimeable terrain. The slight terrain advantage for a Spider would be ruined by SSRMs from behind.

My point was that, under a skilled pilot, even mechs labeled "useless" can be used effectively.

Has anyone ever told you that you're a buzzkill?

No, not really. Or is this where you tell me about the power of friendship, and how you're so bonded with your terrible dragon, you can totally kill 8 mechs on your own?

It would be nice if at some point they launched an infantry mechanic, like little dudes with laser guns defending cap points, or enemy convoys that have to be destroyed before they leave the map in conquest games. Little extra objectives like those would help to bring non ECM scouts to a useful level.

My point is given an even match, the spider is not even an afterthought.

The Space Pope finds several mechs are not suited for the gameplay/map size we currently have.

Some of them would be far more useful with larger maps, that required more tactics such as reconnaissance.

I think convoy escort modes would be great as well, and would give all scouts a better role. The spider can have one just by jumping up a cliff to ambush the convoy down below.

I think you're missing the idea of "effective". Helping your team, doing damage or distracting, etc etc. Even running around and drawing fire. Depends on what the team needs.

Scout and Harrassment are the spider's prime roles. It is not there to do a lot of damage. I have played it in this role and it is seriously fun. The ECM Flamer version I had so many mechs mad and chasing me the rest of the team just picked them all off one by one. If they ever fix the netcode to let these little monsters go 200+ KPH you are going to see some serious Spiders. Currently you need to be in among buildings as you aren't any faster than a raven. The speed cap is the real crippling agent on the Spider right now as there is no way to escape a Raven 3L or Commando. The Flea will have the same issue if they can't take care of the speed cap soon.

Yes, the Jenner will retrieve some of it's popularity with larger maps.

This is a PVP game. There's no reason to ever bring anything but the best.
That's why dragons are so unpopular, and many mechs only have a single variant anyone ever bothers to run, outside of grinding for elite unlocks.

No matter how hard you preach it, no one cares. Dragons are useless. Spiders are now the dragons of the light class. Enjoy.

This mech represents three months of work. I'd rather they had added something good, but I guess you can prove your nerdiness by grinding out master slots on them in the pub ghetto.

Thing is that currently, the Commando, Jenner, and Raven can fill that role and better.

I guess the only real advantage to the Spider aside from jump jets, is the psychological aspect of not wanting such an inferior mech to get the best of you.

Still, that's not really enough for me.
