Simple, hold the trigger for the charge duration, Gauss Rifle goes off when it hits max.
It would seem to be an appropriate firing mechanic for the Gauss Rifle; though I suspect Battletech lore might anecdotally reflect the current instant-fire mechanic.

In theory this sounds like an interesting idea, giving the gauss it`s own unique flavor (maybe even a cool magnetic charge up sound...), but it would also (depending on how long the charge up takes) make the weapon much harder to aim. At the moment the delay between trigger pull and weapon fire makes it already hard to aim some ballistics. This woud basically "canonize" this delay and nerf the gauss.

Well, I don;t know about the poll, but anything that gives a canon reason for a pre-existing nerf I'm all for: they've tried one way to nerf the gauss rifle, why not try a different way that has basis in canon?

Uhh, why would you need to hold a button to charge it, that sounds like a rather stupid weapon.
In my mind the "cooldown" is the charging and the weapon is always charged (loaded) until fired (discharged), then it charges up automatically again.
Now IF, anything needs to be done in likeness of this, give the weapon an on/off switch and a max time it can be turned on (charged) before the coils, capacitors or what ever overheats. Thou that seems a little unlikely to.

I really don't see any reason to nerf the Gauss further. If a person can effectively aim it, find a way to cram it in their mech, and not get it destroyed in the first couple minutes of a match, more power to them. (Yes i'm a Gauss Junkie) As for a mechanic, it might be cool if it had always been like that in the game, but changing it now seems pretty drastic.
