My brother and I are playing on a LAN. When we group up all is well except when I leave the match it kicks him out too. This isn't the case when he leaves the match. We have tried it with him hosting the group and with me hosting the group the result is the same. Does anyone know what is causing this? I refuse to believe it is the network because I have always understood that client side processing doesn't affect network performance.
Any input would be appreciated.

I would send in a detailed bug report, os versions, any anti-virus or firewalls (including your router), details of what happens when you are kicked, does it happen when you are in different matches/groups, ect. there are a lot of things that could cause the problems, but its possibly some server side check (anti hacking stuff?). of course it could be something completely obscure like a bug in your router...

for now i would avoid leaving a match when your brother is playing...

Agree with zhajin.

This sounds like a NAT routing issue with your modem or router. I'd try updating your firmware there before doing anything else too in depth.

I am going to take a shot in the dark that this is due to the firmware on your router coughing when one of you d/c's. Probably how it handles security/encryption strings - try running updating the firmware first.

If that doesn't solve it - try running it open network without any security. This is how I run my network and never see this issue.

Try this.

Get a small switch. the line coming out of your modem plug that into the switch. Plug one PC into the switch. Keep the other plugged into the router.

We used to see this in Neocron. As others have stated it's almost certainly a firewall issue.

I would suggest not running your router in "no security" mode (forwarding all packets from the internet) rather try the firmware/settings changes suggested and if that doesn't work get a proper firewall that handles multiple connections better. There are a number of them for under $200 that'll work fine.

This same thing happens to be when I create a group and others join in a LAN environment. When I exit the game back to mech labs and all get booted. I play at home as well as at work with my boss (home I'm running Cisco 3560G-POE switch and a few other Cisco devices in between through a Comcast Business Class connection, at work I'm running a Cisco 2950 Switch through a Comcast Business Class)

That Comcast router isn't a true firewall. If you happened to disable all NAT functions on one of those and put a cheap Netgear FVS318N (or equivalent) behind it handling the NAT, the problem should go away.

uhm ive played hundreds of games with at least 3 others on my lan here and never seen an issue like that esp sicne were running 3 diff versions of windows OS and multiple othe rdiff between us i wouldsay it is most likely something to do with your router it might be an idea to try getting a firmware update or even just replacing the router as sometimes random glitches occur and are hardware based...

Have you tried disabling UPnP on the router?

I am using a Cisco 3560G Switch, Cisco 1841 Router, Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall, and a Cisco AP541N Access Point. The Cable Modem is in bridge mode and is not configured to do anything - not even DHCP as I have 13 static IP's at home. Unfortunetly, I'm not much of a network guy so I may need to talk to my brother, the Cisco expert to see what NAT or Route statements need to be made here. Any advice I might pass a long would be helpful. The current setup I have is for Internet hesting so I am not sure what changes will do to my servers. :/

Thanks for leading me to look in the right direction, Uncle Ted. :)

Same thing happens to my friends and I when we LAN. Its just at the end of the game when you click exit that it happens though, so its not a big deal.

Same happened to me and a mate in closed beta. Submitted a bug report, but not much came of it.

I was playing on my LAN last night with a buddy and had a slightly different problem.
When is separate games on same LAN no problems
BUT when we try to play on same LAN in same group; after moving we get constant resets of location and the game is unplayable,

Have posted a support ticket but wondered if anyone had this problem and has a work around.
Router is a Draytek 2820
