Although many of you have already stated what role you're going to play as a mech pilot, I decided that it would be more useful to have all the role statements in one topic so we can see what we've got and start getting organized.

I have created a poll with (majorly generalized) types of play styles; tell me if I missed anything or if I am incorrect in my view of the different roles of mech types.

anyone who uses a light mech for commando or line breaking is just asking for death on their first battle.
a light mech was meant more for hit and run/ flanking attacks

It'll be interesting to see, although the poll could be set up a little better.

Modified the poll a tiny bit, looking for more input on that, added several new roles

As I've said in the intro topic, I'm a defender/brawler. Give me a command lance to bodyguard, or an objective to keep the enemy off of. Urban fighting is a blast for me, especially if I have a partner to hunt assaults with.

I am reasonably sure that there are 'mechs of each class that could fit into any of those roles. The weight class is just something to work around, in my experience.

If i see anyone using a heavy or assault mech for scouting or flanking, they'll be my first target and i'll make sure everyone aims for it

Hey, watch the anti-charger bias there! The Charger is the single greatest scout 'Mech ever.

All 'Mechs are avaiable for each faction, but they may cost more/need more rep/etc. Roles are a matter of the modules you mount on your 'Mech and where you put your skillpoints in the skilltree. Nothing besides that has been announced as far as I understand.

Chargers are at the top of my list of things to destroy first. its only strength is its speed. everything else about it sucks.

I'm a trooper at heart, so I like me some multirole. However, I know whats I'm good at. Heavies are all about pinpoint assault for me. Pick a spot in the enemy line and make a hole. Get some buddies to follow you and start tearing **** up.

Mediums? Flanking all the way. There's no such thing as brakes, since slowing down is heresy. Blast a leg off an assault mech, flash fry a light, all at 60 mph.

Lights? Hide in a river, then wait for the hapless command mech or a badly woulded heavy/assult meanders by. Then jump up and nail him.

Of all those in the army close to the commander none is more intimate than the secret agent; of all rewards none more liberal than those given to secret agents; of all matters none is more confidential than those relating to secret operations.

Its been a long time since I have played the beloved Mechwarrior but it seems to me that each mech will always have multiple roles in any given battle, in my opinion the light mechs in an assault role are scouts, flankers, harrassment, spy, sniper, etc. You and your team need to be fluid with the ability to change your role as dictated by the evolving battle. I could only vote for one role for each, perhaps it would be a better pole if we could assign a value to each role by priority, as in 1st priority for light mech gets a 7 (7 points because there are 7 catigories) with the last priority getting 1 point.
