I have to grind hours to get weapons and unlocks in battlefield 4 (sometimes new players simply get ****** by weaker upgrades such as no anti ground missles in a helicopter when there are no enemy air unit spawns)

Grind to unlock cars in burnout

Grinding my gear s oldiers to unlock more locust type

So many games of conquest to get fancy new mechs in mechwarrior online

Grinding to get hats i dont need in team fortress 2

Grinding enemies in diablo like games

Grinding in fable or rpg's by repeatedly killing enemies

I get its for progression but all that time of doing monotonous tasks!
It still always feels awesome to unlock stuff though ;) but damit too much time
jussssssssssst makeee it stopppp ;)

It is a strategy to keep you playing the game and (to a degree) it works and as long as it works they will do it.

I'm curious as to how unlocking cars in any Burnout game is grinding. Most have specific requirements or levels you need to achieve to get to them by just playing in general. If I have to beat 10 specific types of races to unlock a particular car, is that really grinding or just playing the game?
(I also don't think it matters as much, especially since the AI only chooses cars on the same level as yours anyway)
