Is Medium Laser - Can We Return To 3 Heat?

I'm a long-time TT player of Battletech, from the old days to the new. I love MechWarrior and I've been playing every version since MechWarrior was released in 1989.

One of the mainstays of the TT game was that the simple Medium Laser was always a great weapon for it's overall efficiency. 5 damage for 3 heat at a reasonable weight and decent range.

Why was the heat raised to 4 for MWO? Can we return it to 3 heat please?

I'm primarily a Medium pilot and I think this would benefit medium and light mechs the most (who could use a little bit of help in the firepower department).

Tell you what.

You can drop the IS MLas back down to 3 when the Clan ER MLas gets dropped back down to 5.

How's that for a deal?

How about we compromise? We'll give you half.. of nothing.

Mind that in TT all your lasers don't hit one location and even miss regularly. Consider slightly higher heat a payment for accuracy.

Right now there is no real need to to touch it, the weapons seem kind of balanced in their own way, and yes, some numbers are tweaked, but they are compensated by the values of other weapons being tweaked too.

And right now My lasers are only putting 3.5 damage on target so that balances out. Fix the heat and life will be fun again.

In that case can we get Small Lasers to be useful.

Like half the heat, beam duration and cooldown!

Smalls need it the most, start there, then move onto Pulses, then onto Medlas.

Tell you what, they should reduce the dmg of all weapons by 10% and not tell anybody...

Don't forget the SL, MPL, and SPL being reduced as well.

I don't know how to see that, but looking at statistics I felt that something may be wrong with ML damage.
Hit 10,488 (80.23%), Damage 28,419.
I thought the numbers were weird because sometimes I fire them further than their Long Range.
Are you sure ML deals 3,5 even up close?

you put 2.7 damage on target per laser average.

On average for me. Since they are DoT weapons not all damage is on target. ;)

And cERSL, cSPL, cMPL and also the cERML.


Would you believe it....every small and medium laser in the game has an inflated heat value....


Perhaps PGI will try to not balance with heat.

No no no. Anything Clan MUST be nerfed. MUST BE. No un-nerfing of anything Clan until every IS mech can walk right over the Omnis without breaking stride. That includes the trial-mechs piloted by brand new players. Until a brand new player in a trial mech can kill a top-ranked player in an Omni, then all Clan stuff must be nerfed.
