In MW4 the Gauss Rifle was always my favorite weapon. Not just because of the damage it inflicts but they way it looked when it was travelling to it's target. MWO Gauss Rifle looks almost the same as an AC20 round. I would love the get that blue glow and the epic sound of the MW4 Gauss Rifle.

Maybe the sound, but it looks a lot more realistic now. If anything, the mw2 version would look sweet. A silvery ball tearing into the distance in the blink of the eye.

That looks terrible. I prefer the sabot and white dart we get in MWO.

Nooooooooooooooooo...

Both sound and visual from MW4 were bad. The sounded way to "pew pew" in MW4.

Though, I'm not crazy about the Gauss sound in MWO it's light years better than MW4.

And what happened to the visual distortion (like a warp effect) that went with the Gauss slug back in Closed Beta?

The old effect looked terribly cartoony. The current visual effect works pretty well-- it's the sound that needs some help.

That doesn't make sense.

A gauss round is a metal slug magnetically accelerated, it shouldn't leave weird blue helixes around, that's the PPC's job.

But it'd be nice to have a fabulous distorted electrical sound, yes...

I'm okay with how it looks, but I don't really like the "click" sound it makes. Makes me think of a kodak or something. It needs to sound beefier, while staying away from the autocannon sounds.

Maybe the sound from MechCommander 1. That might be my favorite, it was just a deep pop.

I agree, the round doesnt emit a glow simply because its magnetically shot. I think you need to stop watching that movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. They shot a hand held Gauss rifle in that movie and it left a blue vapor trail. In all honesty your would not see any type of trail unless you were looking downrange with optics half a turn out of focus. Marksmen use the same trick to spot rounds downrange. I say NOOOOOOOO

It was cool in Quake 2, but not in Mechwarrior.

This is what a real life gauss looks like though.

They go so fast they set the air on fire via friction.

MechAssault actually had the coolest gauss animation.

The gauss rounds right now seem a bit slow, though. I can't recall, are they supersonic? That'd be reason enough for a great sound, because there needs to be a sonic boom.

Distortion trails would make sense, since such a high velocity round would force the air around it out of the way. I think such things would be dependent on how fast the gauss round is traveling though.

Um... I'm down with the air on fire model making its way here.

That's a Rail Gun, not a Gauss Gun... yes, there is a difference and yes it's a pretty big one.

While I really don't think that it should get the weird helix effect, I do think that it needs to be changed. At the moment, the gauss round is virtually indistinguishable from an AC round.
