Why Play Conquest And Ignore The Cap Points?

Why do people insist on playing Conquest, then only move to cap 1 or 2 points then ignore them from then on? I understand people want to fight and not cap, and I'm fine with that, but when you're in a game mode where capping can end the match quick I feel you should at least pay a little more attention to those points.

Had one match today on Frozen City and it started out fine. Had 2 points capped and then had the usual fight by the ridge. One teammate went into the cave and found an enemy mech trying to to our starting point and got some of the team to go help kill him. Then the enemy started taking our first point and point theta and sure enough we're now out capped 4-1 (3xx to 2xx points). So I go and push over the ridge and along with the 3 or 4 teammates that were near by and kill the enemy mechs by epsilon. After taking Epsilon caps are 2-3 in favor of the enemy, 4 of us and 3 enemy left, and score 3xx-550+ and things go down hill from here. Close to the end its just one teammate and me vs 1 enemy, score now 4xx-650ish, and we (or at least I have no idea) where the last enemy is so I keep moving trying to get to the cap points and the only thing my dead teammates have to say is "oh he's (me since the said my name) sitting and capping." Also decided to toss in a sarcastic gj at the end since we lost due to point cap.

If you want me to kill the other people how about telling me where they are/were? How about retaking cap points when we lose them instead of having me in my stalker do it? If you just want a slug fest brawl how about switching ur game mode selector to Assault only?

I don't know. I never play conquest because it ends up being just like assault. I really don't see the point in it.

Because it splits up your team, so you can either die 8v6 or 8v5, or fight 8v8. Anyone trying to capture is wasting time and drawing out a game. Once in a rare while, a cap win happens, but two assault games could have been played in that time.

The game mode is, in the current state, poorly conceived and massively delays both action and reward.

This may shock you, but Conquest is the brawl mode and Assault is the one where capturing the base wins the game quickly.

While relatively true I haven't seen a cap win on Assault in 2 months, heck the most recent I've seen a cap attempt on Assualt was yesterday and it was short lived.

This is one of the few things that team mates can do that actually annoys me. Can't tell you how many times I've been in a match and its just me or one other guy capping. Even near the end of the match when we're about to lose a close cap race but everybody wants to chase that one last barely damaged guy. I still remember this one game on River City from a while back where my team had 5 guys and the enemy only had 2. The 5 remaining guys on my team just camped theta trying to snipe a LRM awesome that was sitting near Sigma while the other teams Cicada went through and capped every other point. We easily should of won but we ended up losing by resources.

With that said you should know your role. Had another game where were on Frozen city and 2 Atlases rushed Theta without telling anybody that they were going to. Would of been ok except they took the valley along the edge of the map and of course it took them forever since they were only doing like 50kph. Then they just stayed near the bottom of the map walking around waiting for some enemies to come close which didn't happen until the rest of our team was dead.

If 4-5 people on your team DIE because you are off capping, then you should be uninstalling the game... There is no way to hold those cap points to 750 if most of your team gets wrecked in the opening engagements for Theta or Kappa.

I see Cap wins all the time. Not every match, but it's enough of a factor in most matches that it keeps the tension up.

Conquest is just another way of saying Team Deathmatch.

If my team got roflstomped because my commando wasn't in the fight, I think there's a little more to it then it being my fault that it all of a sudden became an 8 or 7 to 1. Especially if the 7 was because of me.

More then once I have seen light mechs running around the assaults and the assaults were forced to turn around to deal with them, and by the time that one light mech was dead the enemy team assaults were on us and killed us fast. If our lights stayed with the assaults, they could have killed the lights and the assaults would have been able to keep the enemy away from us.

Or Having four of your mechs engage a number of enemy mechs and then you notice you are by yourself, because some of your mechs ran off to cap, I have seen that more then once as well.

It is ok to cap near the end of the game, when your team has killed most of the other team, but before that the light and medium mechs need to protect the heavies and assault.

My guess would be so they can play assault with less of a chance of a ninja base cap.

If you had actually read the post you would have known I didn't run off to start capping till AFTER we were down to 4.

Simple answer? Because its MechWarrior, not CapWarrior, and people want to fight. Since we have no other game mode, we are left to our own vices.

True enough I suppose... I'll cede victory to you on that basis.

All this.....

Obviously there are some here that want to do the objectives....but there are quite a few that play this game so they can blow up simulated mechs in simulated mechs, not stand in boxes...nothing beats ending a match with a combined 100 points of damage inflicted and that was to a scout that went the wrong way. Defend your base attack theirs blah blah blah...lol
I have no problem with either approach, personally I would rather blow up fighting than be defeated running for a box, or blow up taking one mech with me than win standing in a box. But to each their own ;)
