I am currently working with class 4 liquid dye LASERs, solid state dye LASERs are what will be going into the Boeing 747 next. Allowing for them to shoot down flying objects from airplanes to missiles using far less space and less harmful production creating the beams -- previous way the YAL-1 used was with chemicals.

So a battle mech is not too far away from being practicable.
