in light of alpine, i fiddled with a classic setup to get some more range.

how's this for a d-dc?

although i guess in hindsight there's really no reason to pilot this over a raven. without the threat of knockdown, the bad hitboxes letting a raven take atlas levels of punishment, and the speed of a light mech, why drive anything else in lightwarrior online? oh and its cheaper as well

drop the case on the RT. a gauss explosion is only 20 damage, case doesn't prevent that 20 damage from hurting your RT, only prevents the spillover into CT if that 20 is more than enough to destroy the RT. but again 20 is nothing. i'd beef up armor in arms/legs with that half ton

Why the hell is your Gauss Ammo in a CASE when Gauss Ammo doesn't explode?

probably because the Gauss rifle itself can explode.

But i'd reccomend the AC20 (or 2x UAC5) on the atlas (except for some long range builds). People go for the balistic side torso very often, you dont want a 3hp weapon there, especially not after the crit buffs.

you make a strong point. i had an ac20 in there originally

You could get the long-range firepower out of some LRMs, maybe. The AC/20 is as good as the gauss rifle out to 400 meters, anyway.

how's this then? also if i put in an lrm i'd probably have to dock the lasers to mediums, although all things withstanding, an lrm20 does more damage than two large lasers anyway, provided i can get a lock in the first place. maybe trade a laser for tag? hmm..

if i drop the engine to a 300, i can take off endo and add more heatsinks

but if i drop the large lasers to mediums, i can keep the engine, drop the endo, and pack myself like a pinata with heatsinks. it's tempting...

case doesn't stop the explosion though. nor does it prevent the explosion from damaging or destroying your RT. all it does is prevent spillover damage from going to your CT

thing is, gauss has 3 item hp. so it usually gets crit out pretty early. atlas RT has 42 internal. gauss explodes for 20 damage. so there's a chance that explosion won't even destroy the RT, plus even if it does you're most likely looking at <5 damage spilling over to CT. in my mind that's not really worth the half ton, but i suppose if you have nothing else to spend it on go ahead

your second build with the ac20 you have 1 crit free and 608 armor. i'd drop down to 576 and cram another srm ammo in that open crit slot. but it's gonna run pretty hot, which can make all the difference in a brawler build

http://mwowiki.org/wiki/Gauss_Rifle

"Unlike most Ballistic weapons, the ammunition of a Gauss Rifle is inert and will not explode if destroyed by a Critical Hit."

Your friend was killed by his gauss rifle exploding, and p00k already explained why the case doesn't help here.
