PPC is one of the few things MW4 got right. They nailed it, frankly, on the look and feel. Sound was a little anemic, it needs more of a thunderclap from the tunnel of near-vacuum (left by the beam blasting the air out of the way) collapsing.

I somewhat agree about the looks, but it would have been perfect if the beam looked less like a blue laser and instead was sustained a second longer somewhat like MPBT 3025 with more physical impact and damage.
As for the sound I totally agree, there was no beef to it. Nothing that implied if you closed your eyes and listened, that it was one of the most powerful weapons on the battlefield.

People forget..., before the clans, the PPC was one of the most feared weapons that a Mech could carry. The range and damage that it could inflict made seasoned veterans run for cover and new mechwarriors flee from the battlefield. Well at least from the battletech novels, Lol But if done right, a well placed PPC hit could practically knock a small mech off its feet. Besides an AC20, no other weapon could do that and have the range of the PPC.

This is why I think it is important to get the PPC right in this game. I've been saying it since I played the very first Mechwarrior game for the PC and before Genie came along. Geez, I guess I just dated myself. Hehehe

For the sake of all the Mechwarriors that have stayed true throughout all the years, let's hope it gets done right this time around.

I always figured the PPC is a real world analogy of an electrolaser:

Electrolaser

With that in mind, a small laser then a lightning bolt down the middle of the laser, all jagged like, with the boom of the bolt as the shot. Maybe an extremely quick charge up sound of the capaciters before the shot.

The PinkPonyCorn will fire a bright lavender beam of pony magic towards the target, causing severe friendship.

For clarity in the BT way. I have no idea what a proton beam sounds like but something like MW3-4 works. :)

Quote

]"The Particle Projector Cannon (or PPC) is a unique energy weapon. PPCs fire a concentrated stream of protons or ions at a target, causing damage through both thermal and kinetic energy. As such, despite being an energy weapon, it produces recoil. The lethality of the weapon rivals that of a higher-caliber autocannon; just three shots from a PPC will vaporize two tons of standard military-grade armor. Targets hit by multiple, simultaneous PPCs can also suffer electrical side-effects, such as overloaded computer systems or targeting sensors. The ion beam also extends to much farther ranges than autocannon fire, though PPCs generate large amounts of waste heat."[/size]

Hey Max,
Been a longtime bro :), it's Tiger from your old RTG unit. I tried getting in touch with Warder and Crusader, but they haven't responded back yet. I like your definition of the PPC, the one I posted earlier was from an old Battletech novel.
As for the sound, I still think they need to make it more powerful sounding. I like the idea of hearing the capacitors charging and even the tip of the barrel glowing and after the discharge some kind of thunder crack after sound and effect.

But I'm also concerned on the damage effect and how it will be represented in the game.
