So... my Cataphract / Atlas can walk through a gap between two buildings, however, attempting to fire between those same buildings shoots both buildings, despite the guns theoretically converging inwards.
Probably a function of allowing arms to clip through walls to prevent snagging... but.
I tend to use the Cataphract less and less now, since I need to expose myself (ooer) horizontally AND vertically (due to the arms low profile) making the mech a big dumb target.
Anyone else find this shatters the realism a bit?
Sorry PGI, no idea how to sort this, short of allowing mechs to snag, or slightly adjusting the fire position for some mech arm weapons.

I frequently curse the convergence mechanics that send the PPCs I fire in three different directions, but having to expose your cataphract to fire the arm-mounted weapons is just a feature of the chassis. It has its strengths and weaknesses, and that's one of the latter. You could try binding the arms to different groups and peeking around buildings instead of over ridges.

The sad thing is that the placement of weapons in arms should give you the benefit of being able to fire to wider range of targets... I wish there was a way to, umm like perhaps, lift your arms to shoot over the hill or at the minimum at the same height as your higher mounted weapons. Granted the wider arc is implemented nice enough but still, low hanging arms just stay fixed there like bolted to place
They are articulated arms, not fixed weapon mounts.

Yeah, I feel the out-of-proportion advantage given to the Catapult K2 (high gun profile) is reflected by the out-of-proportion disadvantage given to the Cataphract by it's low gun carriage.

had a few problems with convergence, my weapons are stuck on a vertical or horizontal plane, rotating my torso seemed like it helped and unlocked the weapon convergence?

The Catapult gets headshot more than any other mech in the game (probably combined really), and you think low arms on the Cataphract are too much of a disadvantage?
I'll grant you that all of the convergence issues are pretty terrible at times though. My personal favorite is when you are peeking one arm around a building, have the reticle clearly on the target, but the building's collision mesh sticks out significantly farther than the render mesh (or whatever it is the convergence system thinks is 3m away and invisible).

The low weapon mount (requiring you to expose yourself more) is a definite downside to the CTF, but no mech can be perfect. you've got a versatile, high-tonnage Heavy, able to load multiple heavy-hitting ballistics. It can even jump-snipe.
Wait for the Jagermech which will have the highest-mounted ballistics yet (excepting maybe the Flame but he only has 1)

Yes, this should clearly be an advantage for mechs that have true arms (Such as the Atlas) and pay the extra slots for them should be able to lift their arms up at least a bit.
The atlas actually does this already somewhat, if you stop the mech, the arms rise slightly before firing. It should probably be able to do this while moving to some degree however and on manual command rather than been pretty much dependent on you making yourself a sitting duck.

I've had issues on my Cataphract 4X definitely, in close range my gauss rifles shoot cross-eyed 50% of the time so I miss my target completely, hence why dual gauss Cataphract is only good for sniping... imo. The convergence is weird, I'll definitely agree.

Be thankful the arms don't rip off as you walk through the apparently too small to walk through & fire at the same time alley.

I'd hate to pilot an Uziel through a city map. Could you imagine your arms always getting snagged on buildings and street lamps and such? At the same time I'd love to be able to have an arm long enough to reach around a corner and fire with out having to expose my body!
