Hey guys (I assume most players are male),

What is the beneift of joining a clan (faction)? In 8 vs 8 fights, are you always put in a group with your clan-mates? Do you have access to clan specific mechs or mods or anything of that nature?

Are they going to allow private clans (analagous to guilds) in the future?

Thanks!

Clans are fun
Merc Corps are fun
Inner Sphere are fun

It is kind of like this:

Clans are the RPG'ers. (Trials for mechs and ranks within units given out by performance and things like that.)

Merc Corps are well, the mercs. (Yeah, you want the small army behind me to take that blip on the map for you? Pay me kid.)

Inner Sphere is composed of all the standard Houses you see listed in the forums. The houses are always trying to out maneuver one another for supremacy.

The 'Clans' from beyond the periphery all notorious for having amazing tech and mechs. The inner Sphere makes up for it with its electronic warfare capabilities.

I know thats a hodge podge answer but it will make sense. The only way to really get a feel for it is to read the history behind a lot of this stuff. I recommend reading for a day or so!

Factions as far as I have seen are fluff currently. In the future once Community Warfare begins to be implemented, factions will have more meta-game purpose such as deciding what planets you might be fighting for on the border etc.

Choosing a specific faction will allow certain items to be cheaper. Everyone will have access to the same equipment but depending on the House, somethings will be cheap and others will cost an arm and a leg.

But that's not coming in until community warfare.

As for Clan tech, no one knows really anything about it.

PGI said the merc corps will be the more active players (player run groups) and the house players will be the less active players(Dev run groups).

first off, some nomenclature:

Factions- the Houses (Steiner, Kurita, etc.) Factions comes with a faction tag in-game and on the forum. There are no faction bonuses or faction mechs. (yet)
Clan - clan has a specific meaning in Mechwarrior. The enigmatic invaders from beyond the periphery. you can't play as a Clanner
Merc - Merc Corps are what we call "guilds" or "clans"

You can group with friends in either groups of 2-4 players or a group of 8 players, and play together on the same team. you don't need to join a Merc to be able to group with people, but a merc gives you a social group from which to draft a group.
