As a (mainly) Light player, I'd just like to point out that unless the rest of your team was really bad, that scout was probably engaged in very useful self-sacrifice......

this is why role warfare needs to be better, because if your whole team chses the jenner then your doomed but on the other hand if you ignore the jenner it can be fatal, i have had maches with the founders jenner 2srm4 (2 tons ammo), 3 medium lasers and 2 jump jets and done over 800 damage with that build. not that im boasting, just giving you an example of what ignoring a light can cost your team.
the point is that there should be more specific roles that can be figured into the match making system, so that you have a couple of mechs on team to deal with lights, so ssrms maybe or w/e and other mechs for other roles.
this would stop the whole team chasing the lights, it happens very often but shouldnt. if you were in tanks chasing around a guy in a humvee while people shoot at you with rpgs you would think god dammit your tanks leave that job up to something else. kinda feels that way when you get these drops sometimes.
i myself run a jenner and therefore are permitted to chase other lights ^^

Its so relieving when you suggest a plan at the start of a game and people actually RESPOND! Even if its not an intelligent response. They are still communicating with you.

- They set of LRM encampment and send out lights to target & TAG.
My team: No one does anything but play "chase the scout" while they bring the rain...
I inform them I'm going to go do what I do best in this scenario... I flank and annoy so they can crest the ridge unmolested. I pop out of Jenner's run and dive right into the LRM spammers and they all move to engage me...
I tell my team to CHARGE NOW!
I keep the opposing team busy long enough for them to move en mass... but no support fire comes and in short order I get to feel red-hot "prison love" as 3/4th of their team takes turn violating me.
I drop into spectator expecting to see my team engaged in the fits of battle... Nope.
My team is chasing a scout around like a perverse mechanized Conga-Line...
Sigh.. At least I ended the mission with top damage and one kill before watching my team die one by one from LRM enemas.
This happens a lot to me too. Just when I think we have the advantage when I get the entire enemy team to fire on me and I survive for like 2 whole minutes getting all their attention and no one goes to help out. It's a little frustrating, but this is the fault of not having proper communication.
Imagine if there was a button that sent out the audio to everyone - "I'm drawing their fire, take them out!" or something.

Actually... eventually through ELO they will get smarter... or more correctly, you will end up playing with smarter players.
(Assuming all works as planned)

Chasing a single light/scout around for no good reason seems to be a popular activity these days. I often find myself reminding the participants that there are currently 7 other enemies waiting to be shot at - often shortly followed by 7 enemies picking the "conga-line" apart one by one....
As far as taking the bullet for the team (or members of it) goes, sometimes I try to squeeze in a block for a teamie under heavy fire. That too can result in death. Sometimes by said teamie launching his alpha into your back.

Also for the "Squirrel" issue if you are near the front lines and see your team chasing after a light, pull back to the next defensible position. During that time try to point out that you don't need 300+ tons of mechs chasing after 1 light. Usually you can peel 1 or 2 people back to their sense and hopefully that is enough.
