Scenario: Frozen City / They - High City Us - Low City
- They set of LRM encampment and send out lights to target & TAG.

My team: No one does anything but play "chase the scout" while they bring the rain...

I inform them I'm going to go do what I do best in this scenario... I flank and annoy so they can crest the ridge unmolested. I pop out of Jenner's run and dive right into the LRM spammers and they all move to engage me...

I tell my team to CHARGE NOW!

I keep the opposing team busy long enough for them to move en mass... but no support fire comes and in short order I get to feel red-hot "prison love" as 3/4th of their team takes turn violating me.

I drop into spectator expecting to see my team engaged in the fits of battle... Nope.

My team is chasing a scout around like a perverse mechanized Conga-Line...

Sigh.. At least I ended the mission with top damage and one kill before watching my team die one by one from LRM enemas. :)

I was in a Match (playing solo) ran into the enemy. I was alone (mostly my own fault), So I slugged it out as long as I could. Died first, died alone. end of game we won I was High score w 7 assists 800 damage! Yes I spread it out.

Actually... eventually through ELO they will get smarter... or more correctly, you will end up playing with smarter players.
(Assuming all works as planned) :)

That's what I keep telling people!! But they just look at me with their blank stares and "ELO IZ BROKUN!" rhetoric, and I feel my brain turn to a little more mush...I plan on filing insurance claims with Comstar when I'm permanently disabled and can no longer pilot my mech and earn a living.

That kind of stuff only works if you talk it out in advance.

Sounds like an excellent title for a Soap Opera (Or a Country song?) :)

Nope i shot yer dog while yer team was still trying to figure out which button made the mech "go". Then I taunted them, grabbed some tea, knitted a sweater, killed a couple of them and then they decided to advance.

I swear it make's tortoises look like they are in a hurry. :)

Folks seem seriously impatient with ELO... a.) they never read the comm chair b.) they expect instant / perfect MM. I'm expecting by this time next week, the majority of ELO parity will have smoothed out... and a lot of the knee-jerk reactions will subside.

BWT... Comstar has a 90-day probation period before you can file any mental-health claims... believe me ... I know.

I think self sacrifice has a place. I was in a recent Alpine in my Centurion, I go about 89 KPH, and I had recently switched to an UAC5, 3 SSRM2's and a pair of small lasers. I saw the enemy group line up over a ridge, was about 5 assaults, but they were set up for long range.

So I flanked a bit, and engaged head on, weaved in and out of them with streaks and my ultra ac5. They all turned to come after me. And while I'm not a light, they were limited to using secondary close range weapons to kill me. And I did about 400 damage before dying eventually. But it basically let my team do what they needed to beat them.

But, running in with a light and getting ganked does not work unless you know your team is onboard. So you really want to wait for a few "Yes go do that" before you charge in.

Far too many people suffer target vision. Still to this day, even with experienced teams, sending a lone scout in to die is a very valid tactic for splitting the group in prep for a coordinated rush.

Guilty as charged. I notice the trend that in game where I bide my time an wait to see where the little red arrows show up (generally) before I go swooping in, I tend to get more kills AND survive longer.

Unfortunately, as an antsy bug-driver, I tend to get impatient and immediately start scouting (which is, in fact, kinda my JOB with a 3M, I suppose) which usually has me eventually "finding" the enemy force and then having to skedaddle back with most of my armour stripped. :) I always announce "scouting tunnel" or "flanking left" before I do, though I'm sure that's ignored by most.

I'm also fairly chatty (text) and am more than keen to give intel back as I can, though it's tricky typing while zig-zagging at 120kph with 5 enemy shooting at your back armour.

What to do, what to do...

If someone . . . anyone . . . on my team comes up with a plan like the OP and tells me to "Charge", I'm absolutely gonna do it. I love to rock and roll. I hate standing around behind cover waiting for whatever might happen.

Fortune favors the bold.

Usually.

Obviously, self-sacrifice can win games. However, I need to stress the "can" in that sentence.

If you're going to commit to a course of action that you KNOW will result in your mech's destruction, you need to have some assurance that everyone else knows what their role in the plan is, and that they'll do it. The easiest way to ensure this, obviously, is to be on a premade team.

Assuming that you're a full time PUG, you are going to need to type early and type often at your teammates - and even then you'll need to accept that not everyone is going to accept your authority. I solo queue almost exclusively, and always appreciate it when someone has a concrete plan - but these "divide and conquer" style plans are really ineffective. They are too dependent on the enemy making a particular response to the bait, and too dependent on the timing of if/when your allies push.

That kind of coordination just isn't easy to pull off in a text window with strangers.

If you're going to play PUG-General (and, if you have the chutzpah, you should) - I suggest sticking to plans that are more "rugged". Even in the best, highest Elo PUG groups, you're still herding a bunch of willful and prideful players. You're trying to herd cats with guns. This is why the default wisdom is that the team who bunches up the hardest wins - not because it's the most effective strategy, but because it's easy to communicate and highly resistant to external factors.

One thing that I've seen help is to be more specific in your instructions. "I'm going to scatter them in 10 seconds. <playername> lead the charge when I say 'go'".

EDIT: WHoops, that one got away from me. Sorry for the length.
