Matchmaker, Matchmaker Make Me A Match

IF we do get some sort of planetary, CW mode, ELO matchmaking is going to be part of that? Your fighting for a planet, since when is war fair? Weight should be the only limiting factors in those types of fights. But that discussion can take place when/if we get CW.
To further my question, why isn't more time being spent creating something that is more useful and more engaging, like Solaris? Instead, we have a combat engine, which is nice and all, but extremely limited. You collect mechs and stats. I mean I love killing mechs and all but like I have said before, wheres the meat and potatoes? Wheres the bigger game?
Is this your vision of what MWO should be PGI? I sure hope not, its a real waste of the MW name.

For example a match with 400 weight difference is hard to fight(been in the receiving end of that kind of matches), an all light group of 5 raven 3l and commando 2d versus a medium and heavy group guess who dies?.
Well i LOVE this game but this new matchmaking takes the fun and equality out of this game. balance is hard to find now.
Flame me blame me for my two cents worth
and always remember friendly fire isn't.

Just about 100% of my matches have been much closer games than it used to be.
Rarely see someone that has no idea what they are doing in match anymore.
It depends how the planets will work. If there are a ton of individual planets, well yeah, and random matchmaker wont help much. But if it is a specefic planet that everyone que's up on, it will be very important.

Personally I think this version sucks, my opinion and I don't see any less stupidity on either side to be honest. Yes, occasionally you get a good match, but that happened with the old system as well. And the whole idea behind this was to allow teams of 4,5,6,7,8 to drop as well. Wheres that gone to?
Alas, this was not the point of my original post. I still think driving down this matchmaking road is a complete waste of time in its current form. It is so very limiting in what we as players can do. Doesn't allow a clan to practice drop. Doesn't allow for clans to setup matches against each other. It doesn't pit House vs House. It gives us no options as to what type of match WE want, like all lights, all Assault, max 600 tons or whatever other options you can think up. It doesn't even allow for a decent Ladder type competition, instead we get this ridiculous Be a Hero tourney where you are a SOLO player in a TEAM game. Whats the freaking point?

I don't think you understand how CW is going to work. In CW you are in a faction and you don't control that faction (unless you are in a player made merc group) You don't generally get to choose who you fight or where you fight. There will be select planets that you faction is fighting for and the match maker will do what it can to match you against those you are fighting against on that planet. MM is a vital part of running CW. Also this is a game first. It's always funner to have a competitive fight than just a stomp.

As for why it's important; well, it has a chance of stopping experienced players in groups pugstomping newcomers out of the game. If they can complement the very-limited current system with a lobby so groups can choose who they want to play then everyone wins.

In all seriousness I like the new system. It takes out all the suicide and ultra competitive players who can headshot me from 1200 m. Things feel better now. They really do. Only one or two ECMs a match and not 4.

No, your right, I have no idea how CW is going to work and neither do you because PGI has suddenly gone mute on the topic. BUT I know what it should be, and it isn't the half-assed idea they pitched to us months ago and it sure as hell shouldn't be based on the current matchmaker.
You guys are missing the point. Love or Hate the current system is not the point. The point is, the current system leads us no where except to more randomized matches. Its a misplaced effort by PGI that would be better served creating a more Solaris like environment, giving the players more options to fight each other.
Maybe its because a majority of you never got the opportunity to play on Genie/AOL/Gamestorm/MPBT:3025. Having experienced those games, which some where strictly Solaris up to full planetary in 3025, and those games had their flaws as well, but you would see there is so much more PGI could be doing here. I love the combat engine, I love blowing up mechs. But that love affair will last only so long before the frustration of not having something equal or better to what I have already played drives me away and puts PGI in the same class as EA.
Just give me a ******* clue as to where this is all going and if it sounds good, I will deal with the frustration it takes to get there.

As for the MM, I've played enough games where I'm in matches that are fairly close.

Me and my friends got dropped on to caustic one round, we were mostly mediums, with one assault and one heavy, and suddenly our base is being capped, and fast, so we rush back and what do we find?
Friggin 5 lights and 3 Atlases.
I don't even.
