I was in a match the other day where the enemy team started 2 Mechs short and 4 people from their team DC'd before the match began. They didn't manage an amazing, heroic upset victory, though.

Me and some of my friends dropped into an 8 man match the other week, and it put us on the map by ourselves, no enemy team lol

It's known as "experiencing a target rich environment."

Generally I've found that one man down isn't always a death sentence. It's not uncommon for there to be a disco on the other side to balance it, and even if there isn't all it takes is one mech on their team going rambo or doing something else dumb for it to be even again. But I don't think I've ever won one where we were down *more* than one at the start, congrats.

They got Assaults in a 6v8, hmmm?

My 8v6 they got 3 Atlas and we got 2 heavies, 3 mediums, and 3 lights.

After counting up the tonnages, it looks like you were only down by 100 tons. So you were either down a single Atlas, or a Centurion and a Trebuchet.

There's been games where I've been on the winning team, with the team losing an Atlas through disconn before the match starts, and losing a heavy or assault to a crash immediately after the match starts. The games where we're down that much don't happen often, and the games like that that we win (at least for me) are even rarer. But when you win in that situation, you gotta love it.

The single best match I ever played, my team was 6v8 on the winter city map. I called out on the team chat, "We're down two, go for broke and tunnel rush!" Everyone formed up and went straight to the cap. The enemy team figured it out and they all came back. At first, none of them had the guts to stand right in the fray and be the first one down, so it went from wack-a-mole to an all out cyclone of weapons fire and flying mech parts in a 14 mech circle strafe around the base. After several minutes, I don't remember how many of us were standing, but we'd killed them all in a toe to toe brawl.

A remarkable fact of almost all threads in these halls is ... there are only heroes, war gods and winners posting and toting their stats and deeds. It all sounds like tales at a campfire back in the Middle Ages.

Where are those who lost, where are the bad players, those who are inept and those who get annihilated?

While this may seem irrelevant, it does mean we're getting only half the story, only listen to half the people involved. That means the others don't have a say, they are not heard, their tales aren't told.
They have no influence in the general opinion making process on the forums and in the community.

The future is for our heroes as the victorious write the history books.

You think the people that got their butts kicked are going to come on here and admit to it? :D

I had one of these games yesterday, we dropped with 6 on snow map daytime, chose to defend and let them come to us. the 3 atlai we had defending the front line worked well with the 2 sniper catapaults (1 guass rifled, the other 3 PPC) and a dragon brawler running all over the place... took out 2 of em before the managed to cross the line and it became an all out brawl at the drop ship... we won, 3 mechs standing! of course, had the team of 8 chosen to send a couple through the tunnel, we could have been in severe trouble.
