Well for a while now there has been thread after thread about the ECM being OP or that ECM players were just more skilled. With the new ELO system we can finally see that they were simply just more skilled! The players with ECM mechs have a better win loss ratio and better K/D ratio. It's really sad that it took them so long to add ELO so we could see that this was simply a learn to play issue.

This is not the first time this has happened in a game though. In World of Warcraft, when it first released warlock players complained about the rogue. The rogue was a completely balanced high skill cap class (much more than the warlock) that a large number of the pro players decided to play. Many rogue players were so skilled they could kill a warlock without taking even one point of damage. Blizzard foolishly listened to the warlock players and nerfed the rogue! Hopefully PGI will not listen to the noobs like Blizzard did and with ELO can see they are just better players.

Excuse me if I miss the sarcasm (I am unfamiliar with WoW), but can't it possibly be that the ECM players had a higher W/L and KDR because of ECM rather than that higher skilled players all decide to use ECM?

For the love of all things that are good, please don't ever use World of Warcraft as a balancing bar of determining good game design. That "game" is an absolute mess with its PvP. They have attempted to rebalance it every. Single. Patch. And have always made one thing flavor of the month or outright broken on a regularity that defies game design logic from competent human beings. Chimpanzees could balance a game better than the apes at Blizzard.

Any player can equip an ECM it is just like deciding to play a Warlock instead of a Rogue. Similarly in counterstrike many lower skill players call the AWP op. In fact many servers have gone so far as to not allow the purchase of the gun!

the logic is strong with this one. *sarcasm

maybe they got to high elo because they abuse ECM? maybe ECM is so good, the good players know that and thats why they use it. the thing competitive players use always determines what is OP.

All this proves is that ECM on a team is such an important necessity. The team with ECM has a greater chance of winning so it's obvious to say that those that bring ECM to the field are more likely to have a better win/loss ratio with the ECM mech. This only verifies the OPness of ECM.

What's World of Warcraft? Is that like one of those games you dress up in woman's clothing and dance around in the woods, shouting "magic missile" at each other?

Not only ECM, but the strength of having superior tonnage (but I do like having tonnage advantaged/disadvantaged matches).

What kind of ****** are you they are only higher ELO because they are abusing the item! I also see your signature you claim to be an ace pilot then list the two most broken mechs in the game.

I'd give it a solid 7/10, because of the place it's posted. I considered making a BUFF ECM thread last week, just so there would have been one, ever, in the history of MWO.
