Interesting that those who are commenting are all legendary founders. Can't throw money at it, it must be useless...

Classist arguments are flawed for many reasons, especially when they're ad hominem to boot.

If I had the whole weekend to do nothing but play this game I'm confident I'd be in the running for at least one of the weight classes, and certainly for the overall. I've been driving a Jenner D, no ECM (which means no Streaks), and I've been doing quite well, especially considering the time investment on my part.

@Levi Porphyrogenitus , don't listen to the negative people on this thread. I have a SDR-5D and a RVN-3L and the fact that you're doing so well in the SDR-5D means SKILL. The Raven is way easier to pilot and kill with, the Spider lacks the firepower and only excels at getting away.

Props to you man.

Thanks. By the way, I wasn't making a "classist" Argument. I really did find it interesting that everyone who posted and was not in the tournement trying to lessen my accomplishments were ALL legendary founders, not that all legendary founders had to buy skill or a way to be better, In fact, most legendary founders I hold in high regard, just not in this particular instance regarding them speaking without really knowing what they were talking about.

I wish more people would use non ecm or ecm variants that didn't use streaks by the way is part of the tl;dr of this thread.

And the founderpackages grant exactly WHAT advantage that makes you better in the game?
You'll get 1 up to 4 shotty not competition level mechs and some space buxx to spend on mechbays or other (useless) things. But in the end I assume it was the money of everyone who believed into the success of this game which gives space poor ******** like you the chance to play without dropping a dime and supporting it.

GG again!
Now keep on grinding so you can win this important tourney - because it's clearly about skill! o_O

EDIT: My "Grind > Skill" comment was never related towards you nor your efforts.
Just stating, that his tournament doesn't displays skill in general, since its really only based on who is able to play the most matches in X amount of time.
In my book tourneys SHOULD be about skill - and nothing else!

Being a dedicated spider pilot myself, I've nothing but admiration for your efforts, Talimar1. Congratulations and keep up the good work!

The SDR-5D, ECM or no is a mech that requires a great deal of skill to utilise to its fullest potential. ECM in general might be something of a band-aid balance solution to the previous and overwhelming prevalence of long ranged assaults (missiles in particular), but as it stands, mounting an ECM module on a Spider chassis provides the pilot with the opportunity to BRILLIANTLY shine as an offensive ECM jammer. Ducking and weaving in incredibly high risk environments to create opportunities for other people to capitalise on.

To cite that an ECM unit in and of itself is the sole reason that anyone achieves any measurable success (in *any* mech, but the SDR-5D in particular) is such an innately narrow minded view that i am inclined to dismiss it out of hand. Yes, the ECM provides a solid (and somewhat necessary in the current meta) contribution to ones team, but the skill of a mech pilot can make such an immense difference as to how it is effectively utilised. Its tactical value when used skillfully is immeasurably greater than as a blanket protection and/or jamming device. Juggling it's state based on your circumstances, surrounds and enemies and allies is a skillset that requires precision timing and coordination. It requires constant vigilance and situational awareness as sometimes the best use of an ECM can have only a very small window within which to operate.

I'm tired of people stating "ECM mech derp derp faceroll" and the like. ECM is a tool, who's basic function doesn't require a lot of skill to use (the same way that mashing your left and right mouse buttons while pointing at the bad guy doesn't), but who's mastery requires just as much time, skill and effort as any other approach.
