Title says it all.. This may be a noob question but my favorite weapon of all time was the warhammer missles in mech assult.

Is there any chance that they will make it into MWO? And if not is there any reason (based on table top or the battle tech universe?)

Im new to battletech......

On a related note what books or other material would be a good reasource to draw on/keep me busy while waiting for the beta. (Im really getting into this!) :)

Forget every single thing you know about the setting, and go read http://www.sarna.net/ instead.

I'm sorry to dissapoint you, but no, they won't be in the game.

The Mechassault series are very fictional with 90% of things being remade to make a better console game.
In the end, doing as Chronojam said would be the best option for you.

Mech Assault is basically a completely different game. Most of the things in that game are made up for Mech Assault, or radially changed for reasons only a large amount of drugs could probably explain.

Is there any books series that would be set around the same time period as MWO, that may provide a more enjoyable read than a pure factual stat type reasource/wiki such as sarna?

Also thanks for the clarification thus far guys.

Warhammer missile? Don't think I even know what that is... lol

There are many books that take place around the same time as MWO.

I would start with the "Blood of Kerensky" trilogy personally, it will prepare you for what is to come next year in MWO. :)

Absolutely. The Blood of Kerensky trilogy is where you'll want to start.

The game is set in 3049

The Warrior Trilogy covers a little bit of everything and focuses on the events prior to and leading into the fourth succession war (around 3028). It also introduces the Wolfhound, Raven, and Cataphract.

Wolves on the Border is a solid novel about the Wolves Dragoons and the Draconis Combine. It's also set in the 3020s, and it's one of my personal favorites.

Heir to the Dragon ends after the war of 3039, I believe.

As far as source books go, TRO 3039 covers the base models for all Inner Sphere 'Mechs, and TRO 3050 covers the upgrades you will see in the game and introduces the Clan 'Mechs of the era. Era Report 3052 covers the clan invasion and gives information on all the houses and clans of the era.

To be honest, the best thing is to start at the beginning with the "Decision at Thunder Rift" paperback novel. It is the beginning of the Grey Death Legion series. I would leave the Clan books alone for now. If you can find them online, or maybe in PDF format all the better. The game is set before the invasion of the clans, or I should say before the clans are even known as more then just a new Pirate Threat on the Periphery, unless you are part of the Explorer Corp in ComStar. (And even the Pirate Threat is more rumor then fact for the IS.)

Also, something that you might enjoy if you can find them, are the Tech Readouts from 3050 and before. It will give you a better idea of the tech. Another resource that you could look into, would be the Readout books for other things as well. There are manuals for the differing Great Houses that will also cover things like what Mechs are prevalent, and there are Manuals for the Merc units to give you a better idea of the groups and how things are covered in Battletech.

To be honest, there is a complete flood of materials out there. You are looking at a game that has been a part of history for the last couple decades plus. It has become more and more polished through the years, and many of us on the forums have been "fanboi's" since way before the term even existed.
