Repainting a mech with colors that have already been unlocked with MC (issue may also occur with patterns, untested) results in a charge of 0 appearing on the users account record (http://mwomercs.com/profile/credits) with the description PurchaseMechCustomizationWithMC. This is probably a holdover from when any paint job required MC. The result however is an account history with pages of identical 0 credit charges. I've also discovered but can't narrow down the cause of 0 credit PurchaseItemsWithMC charges.
If these are required for record keeping, could the credit accounting page simply filter out these null charges?
