Just Dropped In To A 5V8

Happened twice now, got completely wiped as you'd expect in this one, but actually pulled off a win in another, only losing one friendly mech in the process. Both times I was on the side of 5.

What's your worst matchmaker result?

Hrm sounds like ELO working as intended you 5 must be super powerful folks there.

Had a 4v8, and we actually won it. We recognized the crappy situation and stuck together. To be fair though; the enemy team was playing terrible.

Maybe your four had a combined total Elo score that was above the other team's eight. :D

I love hearing about underdog wins, but there is an exploit being abused that causes this and it's been known about for a long time.

Hopefully we get some form of file checking to combat it.

ELO has been getting pretty goofy lately. Seen a lot more imbalanced drops than in the past. 5 v8, 6 v 8, a team of lights vs a team of assaults. All sorts of madness. :D

The worst I get is 7 vs 8. But then someone disconnects on my team due to a crash, then it's down to 6.

I really hope the devs allow game reconnections soon.

Really don't blame Elo or the matchmaker for the imbalanced drops. through repeated and repeatable experiments I have discovered that these are the result of a player being put in a match but for what ever reason not loading into that match:

Alt-f4 ing before the map comes up, time out due to lag, a specific exploit that prevent a map from loading.

As far as i can tell the MM does fill all the slots but unless the player actually loads into the match It doesn't show the name... but because the player was selected for the match as far as the game is concerned all the slots have been filled. This happens again as far as i can tell be cause the the matchmaking is done prior to any loading... i.e. it finds 16 people that meets the Elo requirements and then considers it's job done come what may.

but functionally the difference between a name with "disconnected" next to it and a blank space is whether or not the map loaded prior to disconnecting from the match.

In the end it was 3 v 3, but they won on cap

Exactly. So we can suppose that a Premade group refusing to play a certain map could result into a 4v8 or 5v8 if they all "quit" (or somehow prevent the game from loading) before the map loads.

A simple solution would be to penalize this behavior if it's abused. First disconnection of the day? Ok, you might have crashed. Second one? You wait till everybody's done before getting to play with ANY of your mech, etc.

Also, there should be a DNF% (Did Not Finish) rating publicly visible on everyone's forum profile, and stat page :D

Exactly.

Part of the solution could be simply populate the names based of who was picked for the match not who loads into the match. At least then we could report repeat offenders.

PGI, please spend more time on FIXING matchmaking rather than mucking about P2W devices and trying your hardest to make it look like NOT a P2W.

I just dropped in also to a 8 v 5 matches, I GENUINELY felt sorry for the other 5man team - asked them to post in forums about it and about 2 minutes later the match was done. It was conquest but turned out to be such a complete stomp that we all went straight to theta and on comes a complete stomp.

Please ditch this complete joke of a matchmaker and bring back Phase 2 until you can sort it out!

I had a 5 on 8 earlier. I was on the team with 5. The team of 5 became team of 4 after one guy said "f-this" in chat and quit the match right at start.

We still won. Other team had a well organized 4 man group on it, and 4 randoms. The randoms ran right for our base seeing our disadvantage and didn't realize we had two assaults, two heavies, and 3 of us were boating PPCs. They got tore up pretty quickly. We fought the other guys for the next 10 minutes and the last death came within a few seconds to match end. It was one of the better matches I've had in a long time.

Oh, and this is an annoying bug. I feel bad, but their deaths are usually honorable.

1. The person doing cockpit items isn't the same person as the gameplay developper who's working on ELO right now. And the cockpit items most likely result in a better game because some people BUY them while you whine in the forums, resulting into more actually gameplay developpement.

2. It could be a problem with ELO but the same thing happened BEFORE ELO too. The main difference is that we have Alpine, and some people *love* this new map. You know what they do? They only play this one. And there are *ways* to prevent the game from loading if it's a map you dislike. It's illegal by the Term of Service (requires you to tinker with files). All of this could also be happening with Phase 2 matchmaking.

3. Stop whining for the sake of it. Can't you see this game is going in the right direction? If you're only suggestion is to "bring back Phase 2 until they can sort it out", you're a ****** beta tester. Really. You're supposed to to help sort this out right now, by submitting constructive suggestions.

Happens to me quite a bit.
Naturally, I'm on the short handed team.

I like to post "To compensate for the disconnects, the opposing team must approach one-at-a-time, single file, please. Thank you for your cooperation".

Hola,

Bad one lastnight, 5-8 with our Heavy (1) being a Catapult. 8 man group had 5 Atlas, 2 Ravens, 1 Cicada. To make it worse they base rushed us on Assault with the 3 lights.

Not sure, but I have had some very odd matchups the last few days.

Does that mean, if we dropped as part of a Star (5 mechs), we have been selected to pilot Clan mechs?

Being in a 5 v 8 doesn't seem so bad if that's the case :ph34r:

I haven't actually noticed any difference in the number of people connecting to a game since ELO, it's been about the same as before it was introduced. What I've noticed is the games are generally either a complete cakewalk or that we get absolutely wiped, its rare to get a good game these days.

Weird since this is exactly what ELO was supposed to fix.
