On another note, having any mech, but especially lights, have BOTH ecm and streaks make no sense at all. Why run any other light other than an ecm/streak light? If someone could explain that to me I'd be interested.

So...Just stop playing 2 classes of mech because of one map? Seems like the right thing to do!

Every military ever fielded took into account the terrain they were going to deploy in.
Should be a ready room. Map name, Game type, and the mechs and loadouts your team is taking.
Once everyone is ready the game is launched.

Yeah, um no.
If thats the case everyone would just play their little map they prefer with the build that is the most effective for that map. In other words, you would see nothing but scouts and long range builds on Alpine, a mixed bag on Caustic, and brawler setups every where else. As it is the chance of dropping on Alpine isnt that great anyway. (I seem to get River City 50% of the time)

1. In the MW universe mechs are "rare" and expensive. This means most mechwarriors, most military have X number of mechs to use. In other words, you use what you have.
2. In the MW Universe customizing a mech is a very time consuming process and even more expensive than buying one in the first place. Most military run their mechs stock, this has the side effect of allowing them to train their Mechwarriors to run a Dragon and available pilots go into available mechs.
3. When you are dealing with solar system sized areas where you might engage you probably won't have time to customize the mech you intended to drop on a cold planet to now drop on a desert planet when contact is made and you rapidly move to deploy. Look at Earth-like planets? What climate do you outfit your mech for when you might end up fighting from the equator to the poles?

You're asking for the problem to be fixed the wrong way. The problem is not that lights are overpowered on Alpine, the problem is that the victory conditions are stupidly broken and it is finally coming to light on large maps. On a large map like Alpine there needs to be an attacker and a defender for one base, not two (for Assault). For Conquest, well you went in knowing what could happen if you are in a slow mech, so it's your fault if you get owned in Conquest.

No one is going to bring an urban mech to Alpine.

Yep...that's the only reason until they uncouple ecm and streaks. And you do it only because you have to, not want to, and then when you run into a mech with both ecm and streaks you just die right away.
