Just had a few game on the new huge map in mwo; it felt so nostalgic, like I'm going through the mechwarrior 3 single player campaign!

First a bit of poking with long ranged weapons and then eventually we had a close combat brawl due to the setup. IT WAS GREAT! :P

Thank you so much, this map is really making the game much more interesting to me. I was on te verge of quitting due to some setups being either useless or horrible to go up against. But with this, you can play a bit more in your own way.

Mhm!

Plus we still have The Dessert, Canyons and Volcano to look forward to! And the Asteroid should bring bring back lots of memories as well! Can't wait for 0G haha, jump-jetting all over the map. Should be a good time!

Yeah, this map is pretty amazing. Feels very old-school. If there's one thing I'd change about it, it would be to make it the same thing but smaller and less vertical. The size causes problems for some game-modes and the draw distance isn't far enough to deal with this map, but the wide-open spaces are awesome.

The interesting thing about the range factor here is that brawlers still completely work (I've had my best two rounds with my brawler DDC on Alpine Peaks, for instance) while at the same time letting longer-range builds do their thing more effectively. Contrast with urban maps where brawlers do well, but at the expense of other weapon ranges. Although I sort of feel that the fact that this map is now in the rotation has changed the meta a bit - even though you don't need long range weapons do do well on this one, the perception that you do means that loadouts seem longer-ranged and engagement distances seem farther (to me, at least) on any map.

This is a total pipe dream, but I think it'd be awesome if the Asteroid map was the whole asteroid and you could walk all the way around it...

I don't think that will happen, simply because having a bunch of mechs on such a tiny asteroid makes little sense. Now if its a big one, like a hunder kilometers in diameter that's more likely.

It would be fun with light gravity so if you have jump jets and use them too long…. Well there goes Bill.

I can't see very far. Most of the time all I see is where the PPC or AC was fired but I can't see the mech that fired it so its just a blind shot for me. I'm thinking about changing my FoV but I don't know. Still I do like it.

Hnnnnngggg. After hearing the Devs describe what they are planning for those maps I keep having to go back to MW4M just to remind myself of what a map that size is.

Have you forgotten Newton's third law man!? Without any Gs you'll just keep sailing out of bounds, floating in space, just a derelict hulk... That's if you even get out the asteroid field, as we all know that the chance of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3,720 to 1!

It's a nice map but conquest on it is...not so great.
Would be nice if there were a few more rocks for cover in the wide open areas.
That's comming from someone who likes to let LRMs rain down on the poor folks down there.

I bet they add stuff to it over time, look at the older maps and some of the changes they have made since closed beta. (Not just variants)

I did the Kessel run in 12 parsecs...once...

Seriously - the map is awesome but the draw distance is quite limited - it reminded me of trying to find SetViewDistance in ArmA/ArmA II. It's funny to see only the launcher flaps of a Catapult walking toward you before the entire mech comes into view.

Will we be able to adjust draw distance on our graphics profile? Would be nice to have more advanced options in graphics settings.

Ya its a nice map, could use a bit more clutter here and there, but I like it. Oh ya, conquest is pretty fubar on alpine too.

I love this map every time it comes up. Doesn't matter if I'm in a AS7-D brawler or something with an ER PPC, it's a fun game.

My favourite was a Conquest mode match where an Awesome on our team headed to the center to watch and to hold out (he made a kill before he was rendered inoperable) while I led a mixed team around Theta to Kappa and then up to E6 where we climbed the hill and killed them all from behind, while also having a very strong points lead if it had come down to that. What made it so memorable was seeing everyone playing to the strengths of their mechs. The lights used their extra speed to capture the points and then return to the main convoy so that all the slow mechs could just keep walking the road. And when the fighting started the big heavies were the first to engage.
